What Sports-Related Items I Would Buy with the Mega-Millions Jackpot
Tonight, the second highest lottery jackpot in United States history, $355 million (boils down to $225 million) could be awarded if someone has the matching numbers on their ticket.
The chances of winning are near impossible—one out of 170 million—but if you won, you could pretty much buy whatever you want.
Here is what sports-related things I would buy if I were to win the jackpot.
Please share your dream sports purchases in the comments section.
Mansion Near Pebble Beach: $15-20 Million

Let's be honest. We all wish we could live near Pebble Beach, one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world located in one of the most beautiful areas in the world.
Perfectly hovering over the Pacific Ocean, the golf course looks amazing on television and I'm sure looks even more breathtaking in person.
Not many people can afford to love near Pebble Beach, but I think $225 million would be more than enough. The golf course is about six hours away from Los Angeles by car, but only a short flight by private jet.
Winter Homes in Phoenix and Miami: $5-10 Million

Both Phoenix and Miami are great sports towns, although their teams have not always been all that competitive. Having homes in both these cities would give me a place to stay when going to events like the Final Four, BCS Bowls and of course the Super Bowl.
Phoenix has the Suns, Cardinals, Diamondbacks and Coyotes and is not far from Tempe, one of the greatest college towns in the country.
Miami has the Heat, the Hurricanes, Dolphins and Marlins. There is little bad about Miami and is a city where any sports fan would have plenty to do.
2-3 Sports Cars: $1 Million

Before anything else, I would buy a couple sports cars like the Corvette in the picture. Driving a car like that must be an exhilarating feeling that not many people have experienced.
It would be hard to find a place where I could drive the car using its maximum speed but just driving the car in traffic seems fun enough.
Awesome Yacht: $20 Million

Right outside my Pebble Beach house would be a nice yacht where I could go on long boat trips without having to sacrifice luxury.
The price of yachts vary, but once again, $225 would be more than enough for a top-of-the-line yacht.
Season Tickets to All My Favorite Teams: Around $10K a Year
5 of 8
If you have never been to AT&T Park (Pac Bell and SBC Park count, too), you need to go. In my opinion, it is the greatest sports stadium ever built. It also now happens to be home to the World Series champion San Francisco Giants. Buying season tickets to see the Giants play would be one of my first purchases.
Other than the Giants, the only teams I am a die-hard fan of are the University of Arizona football and basketball program. Everyone has or at least should have a college that they love to root for and mine happens to be Arizona because I used to live in Tucson.
Donation of $10 Million to the University of Arizona Football Program

After watching my Wildcats get embarrassed for five weeks in a row on national television, I think they are going to need more than just money to become an elite football program.
However, $10 million would go a long way in recruiting efforts and making Arizona Stadium more exciting to watch a game in.
Sports Merchandise, Memorbilia: $1-2 Million

I would love to buy a baseball or bat signed by the home run king, Barry Bonds. If not him, then maybe the real home run kings, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron or even Babe Ruth.
Then I would buy jerseys of every member of the 2010 Giants World Series championship team with the exception of Barry Zito. Finally, I'd try my hardest to get a Giants World Series ring, but those would be hard to get.
Spend the Rest Sparingly

After all the spending on sports items, I'd take the other $150+ million and put it in a bank account.
I have always wanted to see a Red Sox game at Fenway and a Packers game at Lambeau yet spending thousands of dollars to see the Yankees play at their new stadium has never really interested me.
However, the odds of me getting struck by lightning are a whole lot higher than my odds at winning the Mega Millions Jackpot so all this was probably for nothing. Oh well, it's still fun to just imagine what $225 million can buy you.
