Liverpool: The Pros and Cons of Turning To Kenny Dalglish
With the calls for Roy's head getting louder with every failure, voices have been growing in support of appointing King Kenny as the caretaker manager or even a permanent one.
The fans seem to think why not—he managed Liverpool during arguably their most successful period when they won three league championships and two FA cups over a six-year period.
He was unlucky not to have any European Cups in his cabinet as a result of a ban suffered by English teams after the Heysel disaster.

He is one of the most revered Liverpool legends, not only due to his performances as a player and a manager, but due to his conduct during the Hillsbourough disaster.
Considered to be one of the best managers in the 90s, he also guided Blackburn to the League title, thus becoming only the third manager to win the league title with two different clubs.
His appointment might also see Liverpool back to playing the free-flowing aggressive football which the Liverpool of the old was famous for and the fans would surely love to see that.
Furthermore, his presence in the dressing room might be the catalyst needed to raise the spirits and the confidence of the players. There are a number of talented players in the squad whose only problem seems to be confidence and he might help in addressing that.
His appointment might also be ideal for the owners, as the appointment of Kenny might help in controlling the anger of the fans to a certain extent. If he succeeds, then great for Liverpool's standing, but if he fails in reviving Liverpool's fortunes, it could be brushed aside as a temporary arrangement to make way for a permanent long-term manager to come in.
However, there are valid concerns regarding the rationale behind Kenny Dalglish's appointment.
It has been over 10 years since Kenny has managed a team and football has moved on a great deal in that time. Furthermore, he wasn't too successful in his last two assignments at Newcastle and Celtic.
Hence, his ability to manage a team in the current circumstances might be a concern.
Furthermore, with any manager, it is accepted that it would require him atleast 6-7 games to come to terms with the team before any sorts of results should be expected. Liverpool do not seem to have the comfort of 6-7 games, especially for a manager who has not managed a team for 10 years.
That is why when most teams have let their managers go, the assistant managers have been appointed as caretakers as they have the experience of working with the team till a permanent successor is found.
Kenny had put his name forward as a candidate for the manager's post last time around as well, when the management chose Roy's name over him. Hence, there are reasons to believe that he has thought long and hard about managing Liverpool again.
He would have weighed the danger of tarnishing the legendary status enjoyed by him in the hearts of the Liverpool fans, should he fail in his second stint. But this also indicates that he might also want the job for the long haul and not as a stop-gap arrangement.
This is where NESV might have a problem: If they do not see Kenny as a long term answer to Liverpool's manager woes, then if Kenny has a successful second half of the season as a manager, it would be near impossible to remove him from the post owing to his status as a Legend at Liverpool.
I would personally like to have a permanent replacement and not a caretaker arrangement. It has been reported that NESV are looking at the alternatives and they should let Roy manage until a replacement is found with someone telling him to manage the team and play with strategies played in the matches against Chelsea, Aston Villa or even Bolton.
If King Kenny is appointed however, I would love for him and Liverpool to succeed as no one, not even the supporters of other clubs, are loving the situation Liverpool finds itself in currently.
So, listing all the arguments both in favor and against appointing King Kenny:
Pros: Undying fan support, attacking football, inspirational qualities, most acceptable caretaker manager
Cons: Lack of recent managerial experience, danger of damaging legendary status, time to get used to team, problems in appointing a successor if successful
Hence, there seem to be valid arguments both in favour and against appointing King Kenny as the caretaker manager and I am happy that I am not in John Henry's or Tom Werner's shoes.
However, I do hope that they take all these factors into account before finally taking a decision.
