Michigan Looks Pathetic in What Is Likely Rodriguez's Last Game
After two years of mising the bowl season, the Michigan Wolverines qualified for the Gator Bowl in a match up against Mississippi State. The game started pretty strong for Michigan as they held a 14-10 lead. Then the Bulldogs reeled off 42 unanswered.
Based on the fact that Michigan had decided to wait until after the bowl game to determine Rich Rodriguez's future, we have to assume that he will be fired soon. Quite frankly, there just is not a reason to justify keeping him at this point.
The argument for keeping him was that the offense was good, they just needed defense. After the bowl game, I wonder how much water that argument even holds. In their last 3 games, Michigan has not been good on either side of the ball. They have not matched up well at all against the best teams in the Big Ten (Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State).
Denard Robinson may look like a Heisman candidate against the MAC teams and weaker Big Ten teams, but the reality is that against tough competition he has done nothing.
The best win Michigan had this year was against Big East champ Connecticut. However, Oklahoma will soon show that the Big East has no business going anywhere near the BCS.
Michigan doesn't even have the option of kicking a field goal. Their kickers are horrible.
The fact is that this bowl game was one of three in Florida that featured the Big Ten against the SEC. The Big Ten lost all three. I expect Arkansas to do the same to Ohio State. That will show that the Big Ten doesn't match up to the SEC. Michigan is not even a good team in a weaker conference at this point.
Based on all that, I see no reason for Michigan to even consider bringing Rich Rodriguez back next season.
