Chris Petersen, Boise State Head Coach, Named Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year
During halftime of the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, it was announced that Chris Petersen, the head coach of the Boise State Broncos, was unanimously selected Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year in 2010.
The president of the foundation responsible for the award, Jim Terry, said, "Coach Petersen has an outstanding reputation, and we respect his leadership on the field, as well as the many accomplishments of the team in the classroom and in life. He definitely fulfills the stringent requirements set for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year."
Petersen led his Broncos to an 11-1 record, with the sole loss coming in heartbreaking fashion against Nevada. With a 7-1 record in the WAC, they shared the title. In the bowl season, his team blew away Utah.
During 2010, the Broncos reached their highest national ranking in the program's history, climbing to no. 2 in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches' polls. Boise State also made it to no. 3 in the BCS rankings.
Petersen now has a 60-5 career record, good for a .923 winning percentage. His team has been in both major bowls for 35 straight games, has been ranked in the top 25 during nine consecutive seasons and has been in the BCS standings for 29 straight releases of the rankings—the second-longest active streak in the nation.
This season may have been disappointing in the minds of many Boise State players, coaches and fans alike, but Peterson still distinguished himself as one of the top coaches in college football.
Congratulations to Chris Peterson for his selection as Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year.
