Texas Football: Will Malcolm Brown and Others Rethink Their Commitments?

Read a Texas bulletin board now and it would seem as if the sky is falling all over Longhorn nation. The fans are in total meltdown mode.

Many are blaming Brown for not retiring and handing the keys over to Muschamp or even setting a definite timetable to do so.

Now Texas fans feel they are left with an old coach who has given up recruiting, (Muschamp and Applewhite were the stars for that), no coordinators and with Applewhite said to be leaving too, the fear is that recruits will now also jump ship.

Will great recruits like Malcom Brown now jump ship? Every offensive coach he liked will be gone and the coach he thought he'd be playing for in his later years is now gone too.

Would anyone really blame a recruit from jumping this ship right now?

Hardly.

This is a team in disarray. They had a coach in waiting who was never told how long that wait would be. They are losing coaches fast and is a team without direction or steam.

Not only is Texas dead in the water, but they're sinking, too.

Sitting at home during bowl season won't excite many recruits. A 5-7 season makes you the laughing stock of college football, especially when you spent the last offseason throwing your weight around, basically telling the country that when it comes to conference realignment, no team is as important as Texas.

Funny. Now they're not even in the top half of a conference that they held a gun to.

Only Colorado and Nebraska had the balls to say enough and jump to escape the Texas ego.

For everyone outside Texas, this is a time to mock the team that thought it was king. It's time to tell the emperor he's naked.

For Texas, the nightmare would be that the recruits say the same thing.
