USC Football Recruiting: Latest Offers and Lane Kiffin's Commitment to Future

Rick McMahanDec 6, 2010

Now that the 2010 USC football season, disappointing as it was for Trojan fans, has been completed, it is time to turn to the future.

So says Trojan head coach Lane Kiffin, who has promised that there will be no repeat of this year's five-loss season.

Of course, with the sanctions imposed by the NCAA still looming large, only time will tell if Kiffin's good intentions can be met with reality.

In the meantime, USC and the Trojan recruiting brain trust will continue to hit the pavement searching for the kind of depth that will return the men of Troy to their salad days of the last decade.

Specifically, Kiffin said the Trojans need depth on both the offensive and defensive lines, and although the latest round of offers only addresses the O-line, there appears to be a concerted effort to bolster the "big uglies."

To that end, here are the latest Trojan offers, two of which reside on the offensive line:

From Volunteer country comes an ex-Tennessee player who would certainly provide that depth to the offensive line that Lane Kiffin covets.

Aaron Douglas, a 6'6", 290 lb. former tight end whose athleticism makes him valuable due to his versatility, lists the Trojans "high" on his list of potential suitors.

Douglas, who just finished his season at Arizona Western J.C., has ties to Kiffin but is by no means signed and delivered.

Also holding offers from Alabama and Arkansas, which he also lists as high in terms of his interest, Douglas will make whatever program he chooses very happy.

Looking well into the future, the Trojans have also made an offer to a 2012 offensive lineman.

Ellis McCarthy, a 6'5", 295 lb. behemoth from Monrovia high school in California, has intriguing potential.

Athletic for a young man of his size, McCarthy is raw but has all the tools to be dominant at the next level.

Young Ellis only holds two verbal offers at this point, UCLA being the other, but that will certainly change as he refines his technique and his skills catch up to his size.

For the time being, both Southland schools, as well as Nebraska, who has yet to offer, are "medium" in terms of McCarthy's interest.

Moving away from the offense, the Trojans other offer goes to a 2011 prep defensive stalwart.

Needing depth in the defensive backfield, the Trojans have also extended an offer to Erique Florence from Valley High School in Alabama.

Possessing all the measurables (6'2", 185 lbs and a 4.46 forty), Florence, rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com, is physical and fast.

With several offers in his pocket, including all of the SEC powers, Florence lists them all as "medium" in terms of his interest but has scheduled an official visit to USC in January.

So that is it for the time being.

With Kiffin's assurances that he and his staff will be hitting the pavement hard in the next few weeks, expect more offers and possibly pledges to occur soon.

All of this to return the Trojans to their glory days.

Will it happen? Only time will tell.

Trojan fans just hope that Lane Kiffin keeps his promises...
