2010 Bowl Schedule: 10 Bowl Games That May Be Blowouts
Now that the madness has died down, Boise State is right where they belong, and the BCS National Championship game has it's teams, let's talk some bowls.
There are 35 bowl games this year, spanning from the New Mexico Bowl on December 18, to the BCS National Championship on Jan. 10.
And while every team that finds it's way to a bowl game has supposedly earned it's place, their are some who just don't quite belong in the game they are in...
For instance, last year's International Bowl in Toronto, Canada, featured the University of South Florida out of the Big East, and the Northern Illinois Huskies, of the MAC. The final was 27-3 USF...NIU was clearly outclassed.
Or perhaps you recall the Sugar Bowl?
In super man Tebow's last game for the Florida Gators, he led them to a 51-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats...
So blowouts happen.
Which games have the potential to be snorers this season?
New Mexico Bowl: 12/18 BYU Cougars Vs. UTEP Miners
1 of 10
The Cougars are in another down year, finishing the season at 6-6, and 0-2 against the top 25. BYU had Utah against the ropes in the "Holy War" but let them slip away with a 17-16 victory.
UTEP comes into this game toting a 6-6 record.
The Miners, a part of C-USA, have struggled to reach bowl eligibility, even in C-USA, and are in for a tough game against BYU and their potent passing game.
The UTEP secondary has struggled at times this season, and the potential is there for BYU to have this one well in hand by halftime.
Prediction - BYU 54 UTEP 28
Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl: 12/24 Hawaii Warriors Vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricanes
2 of 10
This game features to prolific offenses. Hawaii and Tulsa are 9th and 10th respectively in scoring offense this season.
However, Tulsa has a problem.
The Golden Hurricanes, unfortunately, have allowed 29.9 points per game against them, which is good for 84th out of 120 teams.
Hawaii wins going away.
Prediction - Hawaii 56 Tulsa 31
Texas Bowl: 12/29 Illinois Fighting Illini Vs. Baylor Bears
3 of 10
The Illini have lost three out of their last four games, by a grand total of eight points, and tote a 6-6 record into this game.
The good news for them is they will be facing 7-5 Baylor, who has lost their last three games by a total of 68 points.
The Illini have been streaky this season, but if running back Mikel Leshoure and quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase are on top of their game in this one, the Bears are in for a long day...
Prediction - Illinois 42 Baylor 13
Valero Alamo Bowl: 12/29 No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys Vs. Arizona Wildcats
4 of 10
Quarterback Nick Foles and Arizona are heading straight down the tubes.
The Wildcats have lost their last four games, and have slipped from the BCS rankings.
The Cowboys are heading the other way.
Four wins in a row before a loss to #9 Oklahoma in the Bedlam game, and Oklahoma State is sitting pretty at #14.
Arizona has no answer for OSU wide receiver Justin Blackmon, and the Cowboys roll.
Prediction - OSU 58 Arizona 20
New Era Pinstripe Bowl: 12/30 Kansas State Wildcats Vs. Syracuse Orange
5 of 10
At Yankee Stadium this year, Kansas State will look to exploit one of the teams that play in the weakest conference in America.
Yes, the terrible Big Least is at it again, and it's quite possible they could go 0-fer in bowl season.
With the solid running game that K-State has, they will be able to exploit the 'Cuse defense, and run up the score in the Big Apple.
Prediction - K-State 38 Syracuse 10
Holiday Bowl: 12/30 Washington Huskies Vs No. 18 Nebraska Cornhuskers
6 of 10
Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is absolutely great.
And the Huskies have to try and stop him.
Good luck...
Prediction - Cornhuskers 41 Huskies 17
Chick-Fil-A : 12/31 No. 20 South Carolina Gamecocks Vs. No. 23 Florida State Seminoles
7 of 10
While South Carolina is fresh off a disappointing loss to Auburn, they have too many weapons on offense for FSU to overlook.
Alshon Jeffery, Stephen Garcia and Marcus Lattimore are a formidable trio, and Christian Ponder will not be able to keep up.
Prediction - South Carolina 52 FSU 24
Rose Bowl Presented By Vizio: 1/1 No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers Vs. No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs
8 of 10
TCU will finally get a shot at a team from a BCS conference in a BCS game.
Unfortunately for them, it is Wisconsin.
And while TCU boasts, statistically, one of the best defenses in the country, statistics can go out the window given the level of competition the Horned Frogs have faced this season.
While TCU only allows 11 points a game, Wisconsin averages over forty.
Just take a glance at TCU's results from this season, and you will see that the stats are skewed...
That being said, the Badger's may physically overpower TCU, effectively ending this game early.
Prediction - Wisconsin 48 TCU 21
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: 1/1 Connecticut Huskies Vs. No. 7 Oklahoma Sooners
9 of 10
The Big East is down this season, and while Jordan Todman will try to run the Huskies past the Sooners, it won't be enough.
The Sooners may put up 70 on the Huskies in this one.
Prediction - Oklahoma 63 UCONN 21
Orange Bowl: 1/3 No. 4 Stanford Cardinal Vs. No. 13 Virginia Tech Hokies
10 of 10
This could be the worst bowl match-up this century.
Much like Florida vs. Cincinnati last season, the favorite is far superior to the underdog.
The Cardinal feature the best quarterback in the country in Andrew Luck, and Va. Tech has played all season against teams that are not near as physical as Jim Harbaugh's team.
Prediction - Stanford 51 Va. Tech 20
