Most Bizarre Football Transfer Rumors of the Week

Shehryar KhanDec 4, 2010

In world football, the football transfer window is approaching. This usually means a traditional mad scramble by clubs wishing to bolster their squad for the final half of the season.

Often it is clubs struggling at the wrong end of the table that desperately want to sign quality players in order to avoid the dreaded relegation which can cost a club up to 20 million pounds in lost revenue or teams like Manchester United and Real Madrid trying to boost their squad by bringing in quality players in order to stiffen up their title challenge.

Hereby, I provide a list of transfer rumors, some imaginative and some outrageous! Happy reading.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is making a shock move for Manchester United’s Polish keeper, Tomasz Kuszczak, as he looks for a new shot-stopper.

Martinez is keen to snatch the highly-rated keeper whose Old Trafford days are numbered with the arrival of Anders Lindegaard within the United Ranks.

Giovani dos Santos is poised to join Genoa, leaving Tottenham Hotspur with a lack of opportunities possibly forcing him out. Several clubs in Mexico are also interested, as are Liverpool. If rumors about Liverpool bringing in former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard are true then I'm sure Rijkaard would be interested in having his former player in the squad.

Possibility: 5/10

Semih Sensurk to Tottenham Hotspurs

3 of 11

According to Turkish sources, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has made enquiries about bringing the 27-year-old to White Hart Lane in January.

Semih is in staggering form for Fenerbahçe this season with seven goals and three assists—an efficiency ratio of a goal or assist every 49.6 minutes.

Semih is contracted to Fenerbahçe until the end of the season and is currently valued at around six million Euros.

Possibility: 6/10

Champions League holders Inter Milan are reported to be planning a move for Chelsea defender Ivanovic.

The Inter Milan manager Benetiz knows all about the defender from his time in the Premier League as Liverpool manager and is in a position to offer him a better deal than he is currently on at Stamford Bridge.

Italian press reports say the 26-year-old's contract ends in the summer and Inter are ready with a five-year deal and a more lucrative salary than he receives at Chelsea.

Possibility: 7/10

Tomas Rosicky to Aston Villa

Tomas Rosicky is at the top of Gerard Houllier's January wish-list.

The Arsenal midfielder, 30, was a target for Houllier at Liverpool and may be set to follow Robert Pires to Villa Park after his agent was spotted at Aston Villa's training ground this week.

Rosicky has not been getting much playing time at Arsenal with injuries and form not helping his cause. A move at the right time might do wonders for his career.

Possibility: 6/10

Karim Benzema to Manchester United

Karim Benzema is once again in the spotlight with Alex Ferguson ready to pounce to the striker. United might actually make a viable offer this time around and if Jose Mourinho can has his way with Didlier Drogba, he might actually consider selling the striker to the Red Devils.

Possibility: 5/10

Fabio Coentrao to Barcelona

According to a report in O Jogo, highly rated wing-back Fabio Coentrao has attracted the interest of Spanish champions Barcelona with his good performances for Benfica in the past couple of months. Coentrao has also attracted interest from Champions League holders Inter Milan as well as Manchester United who are keen to bring him to Old Trafford should Patrice Evra leave for Real Madrid.

Possibility: 6/10

Patrice Evra to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are preparing to spark another transfer battle with Manchester United by launching a move for Patrice Evra. The Spanish giants are determined to land a left back this winter and a possible deal could see Evra at Real Madrid and Benzema moving in the opposite direction.

Reports suggest Evra is not entirely happy at Manchester United and it could prove to be a good bait to get Benzema to Manchester United.

Possibility: 7/10

Javier Pastore to Manchester City

Manchester City is ready to flaunt their cash once again as they try to land Pastore from Palermo. Palermo's president Maurizio Zamparini conceded that he had little chance of keeping the Argentina international beyond the current campaign.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the playmaker with Chelsea trying to boast their aging midfield with fresh talent. Barcelona also have made their interest known and the player reportedly favors a move to Barcelona.

But with Palermo asking a fortune for the player, it would be interesting to see which club makes the first move.

Possibility: 4/10

Dani Alves to Manchester City

As a Barca fan, the exit of Dani Alves would be one of the most devastating news. Alves has been one of the anchors of this great Barcelona squad and to find a suitable replacement would be a huge task.

The 27-year-old is tied to the Camp Nou until the summer of 2012, and given the fact that coach Pep Guardiola admires Alves, letting him go easy would be the last thing on his mind.

Contract talks have stalled recently with Manchester City and even Chelsea making Alves the No. 1 on their transfer wishlist. It is hard to understand why Alves would want to leave the La Liga Champions and miss out on the latter stages of the Champions League. However, with the kind of money City has at its disposal anything could happen. After all, money talks!

Possibility: 3/10

Gareth Bale to Manchester City

Once again, it's Manchester City being linked to a top player!

Manchester City are preparing a sensational £45 million January swoop for Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale. Manchester City have started putting together a player-exchange package for the converted midfielder, who has become one of the most sought-after talents in Europe following his magnificent form in 2010.

Adebayor and Lescott plus cash could be used as bait to lure the player to Eastlands but it seems unlikely that Tottenham would be willing to part ways with their most prized asset.
