College Football Recruiting 2011: Who Will George Farmer Sign With?

Michael PintoDec 3, 2010

One of the top overall prospects in the country, 5-star receiver George Farmer, is one of the best players on the market.

Ranked as the No. 1 receiver on Rivals and the No. 5 receiver on Scout, Farmer has long been considered a lock to commit to USC, but he hasn't done it yet.

After a trip to Oregon in November, Farmer revealed that his top three choices are USC, Oregon, and Cal, with Miami and Florida in the mix as well. Farmer doesn't intend on committing until close to national signing day so there's still plenty of time for someone to pry this prospect loose from the Trojans' grasp.

Here are the odds for each of Farmer's favorites to land the coveted receiver

Miami

1 of 5

With Miami's coaching situation, or rather lack there of, it would be surprising to see the Hurricanes pull off the miracle in this one.

Miami has already lost it's commitment from 4-star safety Albert Jean-Louis after the firing of coach Randy Shannon and there might be more to follow; including 5-star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

The fact of the matter is, as much as the Hurricanes struggled this season on the field, Shannon was an excellent mentor that parent's trusted to keep their kids out of trouble and earn college degrees. That trust is gone now.

Farmer has an official visit to Miami set for December 10, but it remains unclear if he still plans on following through with the trip.

Odds to sign Farmer: Very Low

Florida

Farmer made his way out to Gainesville in November and had nothing but good things to say about the program after his departure.

“I liked it, the coaches were good and the game was actually great because there were a lot of people there, and I’ve never experienced an atmosphere like that,” said Farmer about his official visit to Florida.

"I was really impressed with the facilities and how things were run there,” said Farmer. “Like I said before, I was impressed with the game and I was really impressed with the school overall.”

For as much as he said he was impressed, Farmer failed to mention Florida as one of his top choices just a week before his visit and you have to think this courtship will end here.

Odds to sign Farmer: Low

Cal

3 of 5

Farmer was in attendance for Cal's big win over UCLA in October

"I liked it up at Cal, it was a great campus. The coaches were great. You know, they're getting a new stadium, I can't wait to see what that's like," Farmer said.

"Overall the environment was great, I loved it up there. They play hard, fast, nasty football just like we play here at Serra and overall it was a great experience for me."

While the offense was clicking against UCLA, Cal's biggest draw for Farmer is location, but the Golden Bears are a long way away from bringing him home for good.

Odds to sign Farmer: Low to Moderate

Oregon

4 of 5

Farmer was at Oregon for the Ducks win over Washington in November and he left in awe much like the rest of us have after watching the best offense in college football.

“They are a fast team, a big team and are building,” Farmer said. “Their offense is amazing the way they get their receivers the ball. It was a great trip. I was really impressed."

“Every teammate loved each other and they were there for one another. They had fun and joked but when it was time to get serious they got serious,” Farmer said. “They were like brothers up there, they had each other’s backs.”

While USC is in the driver's seat, the way Oregon has played this season has been so impressive it wouldn't be surprising if the Ducks got a steal in this race.

Odds to sign Farmer: Moderate

USC

5 of 5

Farmer was high school teammates with USC receiver Robert Woods, one of the top players from the 2010 recruiting class. It's long been believed that Farmer's goal has always been to follow Woods to Southern California.

He's made it clear that the NCAA sanctions aren't an issue for him and he appears to have a lot of confidence in Lane Kiffin and his coaching staff; though after the Trojans had a down-year, he might be reevaluating that stance.

At the end of the day though, this race has been USC all the way and there's been nothing to indicate that the Trojans have lost any ground in the hunt.

Odds to sign Farmer: Very High
