Texas Longhorns Rumors: Are They Going To Fire Offensive Coordinator Greg Davis?

Frank FittipaldiDec 2, 2010

UPDATE: There has been no decision yet on the status of Offensive Coordinator Greg Davis.

It had been reported earlier this morning that Greg Davis had been fired, but there still has been no official announcement.

The Longhorns may have a new coordinator next season as they struggled this year and failed to appear in a bowl game for the first time since 1997.

The Longhorns lost quarterback Colt McCoy to the NFL draft and Garrett Gilbert took over but the Longhorns struggled throughout the year.

Texas' offensive numbers such as passing and rushing yards suffered a major decrease from last season when McCoy was their quarterback.

Gilbert was just not able to get it down this year, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns. Gilbert threw just 10 touchdowns with 17 interceptions.

Gilbert and the Longhorns finished just 5-7 this season and have been a major disappointment.

The firing of Davis would allow the Longhorns to start fresh next season and hopefully turn things around after a season they would love to forget about.

It has been rumored that the quarterback position will be competed for next season with Gilbert and sophomore Case McCoy, Colt's brother.

Fans would probably love to see Case McCoy win the job because of the success his brother had while playing in Texas.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens for the Texas Longhorns next season as they will look to bounce back after finishing just 5-7 this year.
