Arizona State Football: Brock Osweiler Needs To Start for the Sun Devils
It is often said that history repeats itself and the 2010 ASU football season has come full circle.
The season began with a quarterback controversy and will more than likely end with one as well.
While there was a lot of progress this year for the Sun Devil football team as a whole, the quarterback position was one position that never seemed to improve.
When quarterback Steven Threet left the game in the first quarter, the Sun Devils were trailing UCLA 17-0. While Threet has been the quarterback all season, the performance of Brock Osweiler is one that has fans wondering whether this game was a fluke or a sign of things to come.
Osweiler threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns while leading a come-from-behind 55-34 victory over the UCLA Bruins.
Most importantly, Osweiler did not throw an interception, something Threet has done 16 times this season.
If Osweiler has another impressive performance and leads the Sun Devils to a victory over the Wildcats in Tucson, the 2011 season could begin the same way the 2010 one did: With a quarterback controversy.
I have wanted a quarterback change for a while and feel that Osweiler gives ASU the best chance to win. While he may not have the experience that Threet does, Osweiler seems to make better decisions and take better care of the football.
The Sun Devils have a lot of talent returning next year and Osweiler’s ability to run could provide ASU with extra weapons and options to utilize in offense.
While this team still needs to learn how to win, they are talented and need a change. If Osweiler is impressive against the Wildcats, Sun Devil fans will want to see him under center next year.
Threet has talent, but the 2010 season was not a success and Osweiler could be the difference for the 2011 season.
