Cam Newton: What You Need To Know About The NCAA Investigation
In just 13 weeks, Cam Newton has come out of nowhere to take the college football world by storm. He has been the talk of the collegiate sports world since his first game with Auburn against Arkansas State, when he threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more.
However, in the weeks that have followed there have been allegations that have come out against Cam Newton and his family regarding money and tests that he took. Here is the most important information that has come out thus far regarding Cam Newton and the allegations against him.
Pay-For-Play Allegations

Former Mississippi State player John Bond has said that he was in contact with a former teammate of his and that he was "representing" Cam Newton during his recruitment to Mississippi State. That teammate was Kenny Rogers, who has done work for a sports agent based in Chicago.

Rogers has denied contact with Bond, but Bond told ESPN.com: "My story hasn't changed. I absolutely talked with Kenny Rogers, and there are phone records that will show that." Also, ESPN reported that Mississippi State booster Bill Bell was working with Cecil Newton, Cam's father, to figure out if they were going to get a "deal" signed with Mississippi State.

Continuing with the ESPN.com report, Bell admitted that Cecil Newton wanted to get paid and if he did then Cam would sign with Mississippi State. Cecil Newton has denied any wrongdoing, despite numerous sources and reports saying that he was directly involved with the whole deal.

On November 11th, Joe Schad of ESPN.com reported that two sources who do recruiting for the Mississippi State program told him "Cecil Newton and...Cam Newton said in separate phone conversations that his college choice would be part of a pay-for-play plan while Newton was being recruited late last year."
Later in the report, Schad said that one of the recruiters said that it would take "more than a scholarship" to get Cam to go to Mississippi State.

Now Cecil Newton is changing his tone just a bit. When the reports first came out, he flatly denied them. Now, he has "no comment" on these allegations. The investigation is still ongoing and it will not be resolved any time soon. Hopefully all this is just speculation and someone with a vendetta, because it would ruin THE story of the college football year.
Cheating Allegations & Arrest

Before Newton went to Auburn, he was a sought-after recruit that signed with the University of Florida. He was the back-up to Tim Tebow in his freshman year in 2007. In 2008, he was arrested for allegedly buying a stolen laptop, but those charges were dropped. He left Florida in late 2008 and enrolled in a Texas junior college.

Shortly after all of these pay-for-play allegations came out, so did more allegations. This time they were allegations of academic cheating. These stem from his days at Florida where he was allegedly on the brink of expulsion for cheating on three separate exams. Reports have it that he turned in another student's paper with his name on it, and another time he purchased a paper to turn in as his own.

Urban Meyer has said that he did not have anything to do with these cheating allegations coming out, nor is anyone on his staff responsible. Everyone has denied the cheating allegations and even Bob Stoops, who was recruiting Newton out of JUCO, said that he didn't notice anything strange or unusual about Newton or his family during the recruiting process.
So What Happens Next?
9 of 9
Thus far, Cam Newton has been the Man of Teflon, not letting anything stick to him. He has dealt with all of this and come out ready and focused on football. We don't know exactly what has happened with Newton and we may never know the truth. But right now, unless something earth-shattering comes out in the next two weeks, Cam Newton is going to win the Heisman Trophy and will likely be playing for the national championship. Whether you believe these allegations or not, until there is something concrete to go on Cam Newton will continue to be the story of college football for what he does on the field.
