BCS Rankings: 5 Discrepancies That Leave Us Scratching Our Heads
BCS critics love this time of year.
Chaos is the only way to explain the final weeks of the college football season, and this past weekend proved to be no exception.
There was Nevada somehow managing a comeback victory against Boise State.
Arkansas defeated dark horse national championship contender LSU.
Auburn pulled off an incredible comeback to beat Alabama.
So did the BCS rankings correctly rank everyone following this crazy weekend?
No. 13 Nebraska V No. 12 Missouri
1 of 5
My problem here should be obvious.
How do you justify ranking a team ahead of another when in their only head-to-head matchup, the Huskers won by two touchdowns?
OK, they're only separated by one spot, but it still doesn't make much sense.
Like the Huskers, Missouri lost to an unranked team, and for the most part its victories have been less impressive as a whole.
How does this one make sense?
No. 7 Arkansas
2 of 5
Talk about SEC love.
Apparently Arkansas is the best two-loss team in the nation, so good that it is ranked ahead of one-loss Michigan State.
One of Arkansas' losses came against the BCS' No. 1 team, but too much credit is being given to Alabama.
The No. 7 team in the nation should be able to beat a team that three other teams beat, and not need two overtimes to defeat Mississippi State.
No. 8 Michigan State Vs. No. 5 Wisconsin
3 of 5
Three spots separate Michigan State from a team it defeated this season.
How does that make sense? Well, it doesn't.
Wisconsin showed an incredible ability to score points this season, but the Badgers only beat one team that is currently ranked.
The Big Ten was weak this year, and the top teams didn't all have to beat one another because of the schedules.
Having three one loss teams is impressive, but their signature wins all came against one another.
I'm not sure Michigan State is the No. 5 team in the nation, but the Spartans should be ahead of the Badgers by virtue of the head-to-head matchup.
No. 6 Ohio State
4 of 5
Somebody tell me what Ohio State has done this year. Please, someone explain it to me. Here's their schedule.
Tell me what's impressive, because they lost to the only decent team they played.
They played an entire season and didn't beat a single team that is currently ranked, and they're the No. 6 team in the nation?
Boise State and TCU played tougher schedules than Ohio State.
No. 2 Oregon Vs. No. 1 Auburn
5 of 5
I'm going to nitpick about a single spot. How the heck does Auburn jump Oregon after this weekend?
Yes, Auburn showed resiliency in coming back to defeat Alabama, but the Tigers also showed vulnerability as they won by a field goal or less for the fourth time this year.
On the other hand, Oregon trounced the No. 21 team in the nation this weekend, and has only had one game decided by a field goal or less.
It's painfully obvious that Oregon has outplayed Auburn this year, even if it didn't face a vaunting SEC schedule.
I'd take Oregon against Auburn in a heartbeat.
