BCS No.1 Oregon Repeats as Pac-10 Champs: One Step Away from National Title Game

Joe PenkalaNov 26, 2010

The blueprint was supposedly provided by Cal. Oregon's offense had been figured out. Arizona was going to come in and finish the job that Cal started.

With all that being said, Oregon went back to their own blueprint of having a close game at the half and blowing it wide open in the second half. After the dust had settled, Oregon clinched their second straight Pac-10 title with a 48-29 win.

Throughout the game, the only thing that was stopping the Oregon offense was themselves and even when the Ducks failed to convert in certain spots, the Wildcats were more than willing to help out, with four penalties that resulted in Oregon first downs.

Going into the half, Oregon trailed 19-14 but as they have done almost all year, they went into the locker room, strategized and came out and outscored Arizona 34-10. The offense was full speed ahead in the second half, scoring five touchdowns.

Now that the game is over and the Ducks have repeated as Pac-10 champions, the focus will shift to Oregon State. Oregon now knows that an appearance in the schools first national title game will go through their rivals and they will have to do it on the road.

The concern going into this game was that Oregon may look past Arizona and focus on a season finale against the Beavers. Once again, the Ducks lived up to their motto of win the day and focused on the task at hand.

As if the stakes for the past two Civil Wars were not high enough, now the Ducks have a chance to go to the national championship game. The past two years, a Rose Bowl bid has been up for grabs in this game but going into next Saturday, Oregon will be walking in with that under their belt, though certainly not content with it anymore.

For those Oregon Duck fans that have now caught their breath after the Cal game and seeing the Ducks trail early today, hang on to your hats. The Ducks offense is fine. LaMichael James is back to being LaMichael James. Darron Thomas is back to managing the game and making the right reads.

For those of you who continue to hold your breath waiting for this team to fail, you're looking awfully blue.
