BCS Rankings Week 13: 10 Teams That Will Get Screwed Out of BCS Games
Week 13's BCS rankings are out, and we're getting closer and closer to bowl bids coming out and getting a better idea of who's going to be playing in the biggest games of the entire season.
Not everyone can make a BCS bowl game and with that in mind, there's going to be some teams that are a little miffed about not getting in while others play in those high-profile matchups. Here are 10 teams that could have a major gripe come bowl season, and another 10 teams that may get screwed out of a BCS bowl game.
Any thoughts or comments? Leave them down below.
No. 10: Oklahoma
1 of 10
Why They Belong
The Sooners have had a strong year, but losses to Missouri and Texas A&M have hurt them. Those teams are no slouches, but Oklahoma needs to beat rival Oklahoma State to get into the Big 12 title game. The Sooners were the top team in the nation at one point, but the loss to the Tigers hurt Oklahoma.
Who Will Be In Their Spot
I think Nebraska will win the Big 12 title game and head to a BCS bowl game. Oklahoma is better than the Cornhuskers, but the Sooners won't have anywhere near the type of bowl bid as the Cornhuskers.
No. 9: Stanford
2 of 10
Why They Belong
The only loss on Stanford's record is to the top-ranked Oregon Ducks and that game was a battle before the Ducks pulled away in the end. Andrew Luck is one of the top players in the country and the Cardinal are a force to be reckoned with each and every Saturday. Stanford has been rolling this year and look like a big challenge for any team.
Who Will Be In Their Spot
There is a slot in the Rose Bowl that's usually taken by a Pac 10 team, but if Oregon and Auburn play for the national championship, the Rose Bowl might take Boise State and Wisconsin and that would keep the Cardinal out of the Granddaddy of them All.
No. 8: Arkansas
3 of 10
Why They Belong
The only losses on the Razorbacks' resume are to Alabama and Auburn, two teams that there is no shame in losing to. Arkansas has a high-powered offense that is hard to stop with Ryan Mallett under center and the Razorbacks have beaten South Carolina, who is playing for the right to go to a BCS bowl game.
Who Will Be In Their Spot
In all likelihood, it will be Auburn after beating the Gamecocks in the SEC championship game. That will hurt the Razorbacks' case a bit but if the Gamecocks win, Arkansas will have beaten the SEC champion and will not be in the BCS bowl game.
No. 7: Alabama
4 of 10
Why They Belong
The only losses for the Crimson Tide this year are to South Carolina and LSU, teams that aren't exactly slouches. If Alabama beats Auburn this week, that's going to make more of a case for the Crimson Tide to be playing in a BCS bowl game. But there is no chance of that happening and we're more likely to see the Crimson Tide in a New Year's Day game.
Who Will Be In Their Spot
It will be Auburn in the Crimson Tide's spot and if the Tigers lose to Alabama this Friday and then go on to play in a BCS bowl game because they beat the Gamecocks in the SEC championship, there seems to be something wrong with that picture. Although I'm sure the Crimson Tide would take a lot of joy in taking the Tigers out of the national championship picture.
No. 6: Texas A&M
5 of 10
Why They Belong
The Aggies are playing some of the best football in all of America right now and are one of the toughest teams to play. Texas A&M just beat Nebraska and the Aggies are making a late run, improving their bowl stock and it has been an impressive run to say the least. Aggies' fans have a lot to be proud of.
Who Will Take Their Spot
It will be Nebraska after winning the Big 12 championship over what is likely to be Oklahoma State, after the Cowboys beat the Sooners in the big rivalry game this weekend. If Oklahoma wins, the Sooners will go to the conference title game, even though they lost to the Aggies earlier in the year. I wouldn't be too happy if I were a Texas A&M fan, but that's the way it is sometimes.
No. 5: Oklahoma State
6 of 10
Why They Belong
The Cowboys are having a great year and can seal a spot in the Big 12 title game this weekend against the hated rival Oklahoma Sooners. A win seals a likely matchup with Nebraska in the conference title game and a loss likely sends the Sooners to the big game. There's a lot of drama involved.
Who Will Take Their Spot
I think it's going to be Nebraska, as the Cornhuskers are going to get into the Big 12 title game and a great team like the Cowboys won't end up in the BCS with an at-large bid. There's a lot on the line this weekend for the Cowboys and Oklahoma State needs a win to try and control its own destiny.
No. 4: Ohio State
7 of 10
Why They Belong
The Buckeyes only have one loss on the season, and it was a tough one to the Wisconsin Badgers earlier in the season. Ohio State needs some help to get the Big Ten's automatic bid on the final week of the season and I don't see the Buckeyes passing Wisconsin any time soon.
Who Will Take Their Spot
I think Wisconsin is going to take the Big Ten's BCS spot with a win this week, and it's going to put the pressure on the selection committee to take the Buckeyes as an at-large team. With teams like Stanford and LSU out there, that's no given as far as I'm concerned. Some fingers will need to be crossed for Ohio State.
No. 3: LSU
8 of 10
Why They Belong
Les Miles and the LSU Tigers could be a one-loss team, and end up outside looking in on a BCS bid. They won't win the SEC, and won't get the automatic bid to a BCS bowl if South Carolina win the SEC championship game. All chances of the Tigers getting into the BCS with an at-large bid are all but dead, as Auburn would likely take that spot.
Who Takes Their Spot
It's either going to be Auburn if the Tigers lose the SEC championship game, or it could be a team like Ohio State or Stanford or even TCU could possibly sneak in and cost the Tigers a shot at a BCS bowl game. That's the risk you run when you don't win your conference.
No. 2: Michigan State
9 of 10
Why They Belong
Other than a loss to Iowa earlier this year, the Spartans beat Wisconsin this year and could watch the Badgers get into the BCS instead of themselves. Michigan State needs a lot of help to get into the BCS this week and I'm not sure that's going to happen. There's almost no shot of an at-large bid.
Who Takes Their Spot
It's going to be Wisconsin. The scenarios really stack up in favor of the Badgers and it looks like Wisconsin is going to head to the Rose Bowl to take on any number of possible opponents in that bowl game. Michigan State will get a decent game, but it's no Rose Bowl. Then again, most games can say that with the history of the Rose Bowl.
No. 1: TCU
10 of 10
Why They Belong
An undefeated season is an undefeated season. If it weren't for Utah's stunning loss to Notre Dame, the Horned Frogs were likely to be in line to play for the national championship game but it looks like Boise State is going to hop TCU with a win over Nevada this week. TCU could get in if the Broncos make the national championship game, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.
Who Takes Their Spot
It's likely going to be Boise State. If the Broncos win out, they'll take the top spot and get the one spot that the BCS is required to slot. However, if the Broncos make the national championship with Auburn or Oregon losing, it will open up a possible at-large slot for the Horned Frogs but it's a hard sell and could cost one of the bowls a lot of money.
