College Football Week 13 BCS Ranking: 10 Teams Better Than Their Current Spot
The arguments are never ending.
The newest BCS rankings were released Sunday night, and many of the same questions still exist: Is Oregon deserving to sit ahead of Auburn and TCU? Does Boise State deserve to be ahead of TCU?
Then there are new discussions, like whether Stanford should have swapped spots with LSU, and if Texas A&M deserved to move up further than it did.
The Cardinal and Aggies are part of an interesting discussion regarding teams who could be way better than their ranking.
They aren't the only ones.
Is there a team above them?
Time to find out.
Here are 10 teams better than their current spot in the latest BCS rankings.
10. Mississippi State
1 of 10
At 25th, the Bulldogs (7-4) are the best four-loss team in the rankings.
Averaging 385 total yards per game, they could beat any of the four teams in front of them (Arizona, Florida State, NC State and Iowa).
In their 38-31 double overtime loss to Arkansas, the Bulldogs finished with 32 first downs and 486 total yards.
Alabama torched them with the big plays, but Mississippi State showed they can hang with some of the SEC's more talented teams.
9. Utah
2 of 10
Before going off about their losses to TCU and Notre Dame, consider that the 20th ranked Utes (9-2) are averaging just over 37 points per game.
In their 38-34 win over San Diego State, the Utes held the Aztecs to 59 yards rushing; the sixth time this season a Utah opponent has been held to under 100 yards.
Quarterback Jordan Wynn also had a career-high 362 yards passing, giving him four 300-yard games in his career—and third this season.
8. Oklahoma
3 of 10
Oklahoma (9-2) is 13th, but should move into the top 10 if they defeat ninth-ranked Oklahoma State (10-1) this weekend in Stillwater.
The Sooners have the nation's fourth best passing offense, which averages just over 324 yards per game, and they are 16th nationally in scoring (36.3).
In the 53-24 win over Baylor, Oklahoma's talented offensive trio shined: Quarterback Landry Jones threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns in three quarters; DeMarco Murray had 182 all-purpose yards; and Ryan Broyles had 12 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.
7. Virginia Tech
4 of 10
The Hokies (9-2) are 16th and could be a few spots higher.
After starting 0-2, Virginia Tech has won nine straight and needs one more victory to become the only FBS team to win 10 or more games in the last seven seasons.
One other interesting fact: Virginia Tech is second in interceptions with 19.
6. South Carolina
5 of 10
Everyone knows about the great duo: Quarterback Stephen Garcia and running back Marcus Lattimore.
Just as important for the 18th ranked Gamecocks (8-3) is a defense that leads the SEC and is third in the nation in sacks (36).
South Carolina's defense has also scored five touchdowns.
One more win would give South Carolina just its third nine-win season in school history.
The 1984 squad finished with 10 wins and the team won nine in 2001.
5. Arkansas
6 of 10
The 12th ranked Razorbacks (9-2) could jump plenty if they defeat No. 5 LSU (10-1).
Arkansas is averaging just over 491 total yards, with quality wins over South Carolina and Texas A&M this season.
They've also won five straight games, during which the team is averaging close to 45 points per game and has converted 33 of 64 third downs (.516).
4. Texas A&M
7 of 10
Anyone else confused why Texas A&M (8-3) moved up just to 17th?
The Aggies are averaging 455 total yards per game.
Last week's 9-6 win over Nebraska marked the first time for Texas A&M to beat two top 15 teams in the Associated Press' poll in a single season since 1998: That year the Aggies knocked off Nebraska (2), Missouri (13) and Kansas State (3).
3. Wisconsin
8 of 10
The seventh ranked Badgers (10-1) could be the best team in the nation.
Wisconsin finished with 558 total yards last week against Michigan and has already knocked off then No. 1 Ohio State (31-18) and No. 15 Iowa (31-30).
2. Stanford
9 of 10
The sixth ranked Cardinal (10-1) is looking to win a school-record 11 games.
Stanford is second in the Pac 10, and eighth nationally in scoring offense at just over 40 points per game.
The Cardinal has outscored opponents 264-78 in the first half this season, and allowed 44 total points in their last four games.
1. Boise State
10 of 10
The fourth ranked Broncos (10-0) defeated Fresno State 51-0 for their 24th straight victory.
Boise State has already knocked off Virginia Tech this year, and can gain more respect if they topple another giant in a BCS bowl game.
There will be other chances: The school announced that it will be playing Georgia in 2011 and Ole Miss in 2014 in the Chick-fil-A kickoff games.
