Miami Heat: Injury To Udonis Haslem Will Test Not Only the Team, But Its Fans

Pedro HeizerNov 22, 2010

The injury bug has hit Miami, yet again. Already without sharpshooter Mike Miller, Miami now loses its heart and soul with the injury to Udonis Haslem for weeks or even longer.

The MRI on Sunday revealed Haslem has a torn ligament in his left foot and will be out indefinitely. Pat Riley said on Sunday that he expects Haslem to play again this season, but just doesn’t know when.

It is yet unclear if Udonis Haslem will nees surgery to repair the torn ligament. Haslem was brought to a specialist in Miami on Monday to evaluate it.

Haslem was leading not only Miami, but the entire league reserves in rebounding with eight per game and was also averaging eight points per game.

Since Miami ranks 19th in the NBA in rebounding, Pat Riley said that he is considering adding a player to the roster, but this move would require Miami to cut someone from the current roster.

Who would Miami pick up? Well that’s simple, Erick Dampier is the clear frontrunner. For his career, Dampier averages eight points and seven rebounds per game. Dampier would be the clear favorite to be added to a roster that has been lacking effort in the rebounding department.

Who would Miami cut? That’s a hard question. There are a few players I can see Miami cutting right now, rookie Dexter Pitman, Jerry Stackhouse or Jamaal Magloire.

The one people are mostly talking about being on the hot seat is Jamaal Magloire who hasn’t really done much for the Miami Heat this season and he looks pretty dispensable for Miami.

I’m not sure as to who would be cut in order to make room for Erick Dampier, but let’s keep one thing in mind; Pat Riley is definitely in his office right now contemplating the pros and the cons of signing Dampier and dropping a player.

In other injury news, the MRI conducted on Wade’s wrist revealed that the wrist really is sprained but it’s nothing serious but don’t expect to see him in action tonight versus Indiana.

These minor setbacks are sure to test the patience and the faith of Miami Heat fans and many bandwagon jumpers will soon be falling from the bandwagon faster than flies.

Keep hope alive Heat Fans.
