Urban Meyer Had Obligation, Not Just Right, To Allow Chris Rainey Back

There you go.

I said it.

Come and get me, Gator haters. I'll be right here, waiting for ya.

That's right, I just said that Urban Meyer had an obligation to allow Chris Rainey back onto his football team, and I'm not just talking about winning football games.

Character is extremely important to me. But so is justice. And last I checked, justice has nothing to do with expelling a player for an offense such as texting your ex girlfriend "Time to die, b*tch, you and ur."

Nobody really knows what the second part of that text meant. That's not true about the first part. The first four words were very clear.

Now by no means am I saying that Rainey should have been excused from sending that text. I mean, in all honesty, he did threaten somebody's life. He was deservedly punished for doing that. He missed five games of footballthree of which the Gators lost. So if Meyer was so interested in only winning games, why not allow him back for the Alabama game? How about for the LSU game? And then, to really prove the point, why not allow him back to provide a spark against Mississippi State after two consecutive disgraceful offensive performances?

I'll tell you why.

Because Urban Meyer had an obligation to punish this young man, the same way he had an obligation to give him a second chance.

This is a college kid who has never used any act of violence in his life. This is a young man who, as his own mother said "is afraid of the police". This is a great teammate whose biggest mistake was to run his mouth a few times.

Oh, and by the way, the B*tch actually stood up for him numerous times, saying that he wasn't violent and that she didn't want him arrested, and that they are in actually good friends with a solid platonic relationship.

Someone explain the difference between Rainey's text, and getting mad at somebody for spilling their lunch on you and snarling, "I'm gonna kill you." Or if you warn somebody, "If you say that again, I'm going to murder you."

Really isn't any difference, is there?

How would all of you haters feel if you and your boss had a great relationship, and one day you got into a feud with him, and you got so angry that you accidentally let something like "I'm gonna kill you" slip out, and then you get fired, and tossed on the street again? And how would you feel if that job was the only thing you're good at in life? Football is Rainey's life.

Now imagine that you are Mark Richt. Say Aaron Murray send a text message to his girlfriend, saying "Time to Die, B*tch". If you do kick him off the team, then you could bet your last dollar he gets a second chance somewhere elsenamely Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, wherever. Then say Georgia plays them in a huge game. Say Murray throws the game winning touchdown pass. How do you feel now? I mean, he shouldn't ever play again, right???

Problem is, he's going to. Someone will give him another chance. Meyer's already let that happen once. Saying or even writing his name makes me want to vomit, so I won't. Let's just say that if Florida and Auburn win tomorrow, a certain quarterback will be facing his former team for the SEC Championshiand will almost certainly be giving a double digit point spread.

Leave the kid alone. He made a mistake. I'm pretty sure all of us out there have done some pretty stupid, if not criminal things. He is getting a second chance, just like everybody else out there is.

So come on down, Gator haters. Bring it on. Hit me with the most obscene words in your vocabulary. Try to explain why I'm wrong. And I absolutely pity the person who tries to disagree with my parallel to Auburn's current QBalmost as much as I would pity the fool who plays the race card, saying he's a stupid black guy.

I look forward to it.
