Cam Newton: Auburn Quarterback, Volunteer, Man of Steel
I know that everyone that has watched a highlight reel has seen the motion of Cam Newton ripping open his jersey to show his Superman cape underneath.
The guy is truly an animal on the field. He makes the knees of defensive backs shudder and accelerates at tailback speed in the open field.
With all of his glory, talent and success that has come so far on the field, Mr. Newton has fallen under some severe character attacks as of late.
The first story that came to light was that of John Bond and his alleged Mississippi State recruiting violations. Now comes an academic scandal.
The problem with all of the allegations that have come to light about Newton and his family is that none of the sources from the stories seem to agree with one another. The recruiting payment ordeal was well documented and caused quite a stir for a few days, but after sources fell apart and folks started to disagree with one another, the allegations seemed to fizzle.
Now come new allegations that Cam was part of a cheating scandal and was caught not once, not twice, but three times at his tenure at Florida. Really? If he was caught cheating three times in a row and nothing was done before he was able to transfer, there seems to be a problem there.
The fact that his records were released to a junior college and then to Auburn despite having this academic fraud scandal over his head is amazing. If this academic scandal is true, the NCAA needs to look into Florida and its academic standards for athletes. If he cheated three times and got away with it, there is a problem far beyond Cam Newton at the University of Florida.
With all of these things coming to light, one has to wonder, why and where are they coming from? The recruiting violations story had some legs and had folks questioning what Auburn may have done and if Auburn may have been part of something shady. But an academic cheating accusation from three years ago? This is where you wonder why grown men are trying to tear down the success of a 21-year-old.
Cam Newton, I am sure, has made some mistakes in his life and has done things that are not on the up and up. Haven't you? I am not aware of many people that would want their lives plastered all over the Internet and the television. Newton and his family have not asked for this. Newton and his family don't deserve this.
Cameron Newton has been an upstanding citizen and gone above and beyond what has been asked of him. Every week he volunteers at a local school helping underprivileged children achieve success in the classroom. He is a guy that represents himself well every time that he is in an interview.
I am not sure what grudge is being held against Newton, but man, somebody needs to let it go. If anyone tries to think that it is some actual coincidence that these stories broke back to back, then I need to sell you some oceanfront property in Arizona.
One thing is for sure: No matter what is said about Newton, the guy is resilient. This team is resilient. Cam Newton has and will continue to be a great guy for Auburn and his community.
