Notre Dame: Time for Brian Kelly To Go Following Death ff Declan Sullivan
Why is Brian Kelly still employed?
The fact that Kelly has led Notre Dame during one of the uglier nine game stretches, which includes losses to Tulsa and Navy, is irrelevant. Kelly's main indiscretion is not that he is responsible for a bad football team, Kelly's crime is much worse then that.
On October 27th, Notre Dame student Declan Sullivan died following the collapse of a tower used to film Notre Dame practices. After the 30 foot crash, Sullivan was rushed to South Bend hospital, where he passed away.

In the days that have followed the death of a student hired by Kelly, we have seen no remorse or any inkling of feeling from him. In fact, what we have seen is a man totally out of touch and unfit to be trusted with the lives of student-athletes.
Kelly's first press conference following the incident featured him preaching the importance of "getting in a productive practice" and his prior experience with poor weather conditions. Only after this, did Kelly talk about the safety of his players and those around him.
Getting in a good practice? A teenager dies, and what concerns Brian Kelly is if his 4-5 team is ready to strap it down on Saturdays.
As if his press conference wasn't reprehensible enough, reports have come out stating that while having knowledge of the tower collapse, Kelly continued to run practice.
When a college coach walks into the home of a prospective student athlete, they promise those parents many things. But the most important of those promises is that they will ensure the safety of their children, while they are in their care.
How can any parent, entrust the life of their child, to a man who is more concerned with X's and O's then with lives? How can any institution stand behind a man with such backwards priorities?
The actions of Brian Kelly have been appalling. What would be more appalling, would be if Notre Dame stands by idly behind the mask of "Touchdown Jesus" and recruiting classes.
Notre Dame, it is time to let Brian Kelly go.
