Put Gareth Bale Speculation to Bed Early: Tottenham Hotspur Not a Selling Club

Chris ArcherNov 3, 2010

Gareth Bales' scintillating performance last night at White Hart Lane had every Spurs fan on his feet whenever he touched the ball. It's not just the blistering pace in transition, but also the quality of the delivery that was responsible for two goals.

Bale delivered like Beckham, but with the added bonus of pace and tricks. He was phenomenal and unplayable in this match.

The biggest puzzle for me was that having seen Bale destroy Maicon in the San Siro a fortnight ago , that the usually defensive minded Benitez, left him to the same fate. Perhaps he thought that Bale had been lucky in Milan and wouldn't be able to repeat the feat.

Well, he didn't score in the match but he was still the biggest difference between the two teams. Don't get me wrong,  Tottenham were very good in every position, especially with Kaboul with certainly his greatest game in a Hotspur jersey.

Harry Redknapp was full of praise for Bale after the game, and I am sure he must be irritated with the immediate speculation that he will be off to a bigger club. This insinuates that  Spurs are not a club that play at the highest level, don't have ambitions to be better and that they are a selling club.

In reality, Spurs are consistently one of the top spenders in the Premier League and show ambition in their purchases. They have the best bench in the League bar none, with internationals not even making it on to the bench.

He is already at a club where Robbie Keane, Gio Dos Santos, David Bentley and Niko Kranjcar can't get a kick. Where is he going to go that has a better squad?

The guessers are saying he will be off to Manchester United, City, Chelsea or Inter Milan. The bookmakers have opened books on where he will go. He is already at the best place for him, and he needs time to adjust to his new-found adulation and find some consistency.

Going to Manchester United hasn't been all roses for Carrick and Berbatov, and the pull can't be as strong now that Spurs are also playing Champions League football.

He seems like a down-to-earth boy, and I would hope he wouldn't see the money available at City as a reason to leave. Those players left because they wanted to play Champions League in front of big crowds, not because Spurs wanted to cash in.

Gareth Bale has Champions League football where he is, and he is proving very good at it. I am sure Harry Redknapp won't be thinking of cashing in his biggest asset and would be well advised to think of a way of stopping the talk of a transfer.

Here is wishing Gareth Bale a long and successful career at Tottenham Hotspur. I hope he brings the crowd to its feet for many years to come.
