Cam Newton's Run and 20 Other Famous Heisman Moments

Nathaniel UyOct 30, 2010

Cam Newton's run against the LSU Tigers broke a 10-10 tie and propelled Auburn to a win, earning them the No. 1 spot in the BCS rankings.

While the Tigers are sitting pretty at the top of the BCS, one thing is clear—Newton has been a tremendous difference-maker for the Tigers.

Could we be looking back at that 49-yard run months from now and consider that his Heisman moment?

If the season ended today, he would certainly make a strong case for the trophy.  While we still have much more college football left, let's take a look back at Newton's run and some of the best Heisman moments in history.

Enjoy!

The Army's Pete Dawkins had the most memorable play of his Heisman season in 1958 against the Rice Owls.

He pulled in a pass from his quarterback on the run and kept his legs going as he ran by several Owl defenders.

With less than a minute left in a tie game, 7-7, he took the ball 64 yards for the score to lead Army to a tremendous win.

Spurrier did it all and won the Heisman that season.

1967: OJ Simpson's 64-Yard Run Against UCLA

The Juice had a monster game against UCLA and was a Heisman candidate that season as a junior.  He ran the ball 64 yards in this video, as the Bruins beat crosstown rival USC.

However, during a time when the Heisman Trophy normally went to seniors, Simpson did not win.

He did come back for his senior year and had a tremendous season, rushing for 1,709 yards and 22 TDs.

He won the Heisman in 1968 by the largest margin of victory in college football history.
