NFL Week 8 Predictions: Will Arian Foster Run Wild Over Indianapolis Colts Again
It's time for Week 8 NFL Predictions. And the biggest question on most Colts fans minds is how do we stop Arian Foster and the Houston Texans?
Several teams are sitting home on a bye making their second half plans. But for the rest of the league, it's another weekend of kicking butt or getting your butts kicked.
There are quite a few intriguing matchups on the docket. Here's a list of picks and why we made them.
Redskins at Lions
1 of 13
Why the Redskins Will Win: Washington needs to win to stay in shouting distance of the Giants. McNabb has been inconsistent, but the Lions secondary has been real consistent. Consistently bad.
Why the Lions Will Win: Detroit finally has their three main guys on the field at the same time: Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford and Jahvid Best. All three have stud potential.
Prediction: Stafford will have too much rust to shake off after all that time away, but the game will stay close. Redskins 28, Lions 24
Jaguars at Cowboys
2 of 13
Why the Jaguars Will Win: Everyone assumes this is one of the games that Dallas will definitely win, even without Romo. I think not. Just like the Giants ran all over them I see Maurice Jones-Drew having his biggest game of the season. And David Garrard is back. Not sure if that means anything.
Why the Cowboys Will Win: If there has ever been a time and place where the Cowboys can show that they have heart and desire it will be in Dallas this Sunday. If not, heads might literally start rolling. Maybe not literally but still.
Prediction: The upset! Let the blood-letting begin. Jaguars 27, Cowboys 21
Dolphins at Bengals
3 of 13
Why the Dolphins Will Win: Miami felt cheated last week and will take it out on the underachieving Bengals. Chad Henne has been putting up decent numbers, Brandon Marshall is still a beast and the running game is solid. As long as they get the lead or stay close, Palmer or one of the Bengals will turn the ball over at a crucial time.
Why the Bengals Will Win: After losing three in a row, the team shows some pride, says they are mad and they are not going to take it anymore! Or maybe that just happens in the movies. Miami's defense is not dominant, and Palmer has been throwing for a lot of yards lately. So maybe, just maybe they won't implode late.
Prediction: Home field helps but the game might not be aesthetically pleasing. Bengals 21, Dolphins 17
Bills at Chiefs
4 of 13
Why the Bills Will Win: Because they are due. They have an explosive offense, and there is no way that the Chiefs can play like they are playing all year without having the occasional slip up. In Fitzpatrick we trust. And Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller will help as well.
Why the Chiefs WIll Win: They can play the "no respect" card all year. And they are at home where the crowd is the best in the league, apparently. If Cassel doesn't turn it over and Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles keep running like they are, this team will continue to be tough to beat. They are undefeated at home.
Prediction: Buffalo breaks on through to the other side. Bills 31, Chiefs 27
Panthers at Rams
5 of 13
Why the Panthers Will Win: Here's something that most people probably don't know: So far this season when Matt Moore throws for over 300 yards, the Panthers win. Unfortunately for Moore, the Rams pass defense is probably better than the 49ers "D" right now. But Steve Smith is back and the St. Louis might be without their top cornerback this week.
Why the Rams Will Win: The Panthers have been giving up a lot of yards to running backs this season. So Steven Jackson could be the perfect workhorse this game. I say he hits triple digits by late third quarter.
Prediction: Steven Jackson gets back in the discussion for best backs in the game. Rams 24, Panthers 14
Broncos at 49ers (at Wembley Stadium, UK)
6 of 13
Why the Broncos Will Win: Because Orton is due to bounce back to the numbers he was putting up earlier in the year. And since Matt Moore threw for over 300 yards against this defense, Orton might go for 400.
Why the 49ers Will Win: Because if they don't Coach Mike Singletary will kill one of the players and leave the body in London. And because the secondary can't be this bad. And of course Frank Gore will show the Brits what he can do.
Prediction: The losing coach gets his passport revoked and has to stay overseas. 49ers 28, Broncos 24
Packers at Jets
7 of 13
Why the Packers Will Win: Aaron Rodgers will throw the ball over 50 times and lead a furious comeback. Green Bay will abandon the run by halftime and try to score every time they touch the ball. One of the receivers is going to get open underneath. I say Donald Driver, if he's healthy.
Why the Jets Will Win: New York will make sure that the Packers new-found running game from last week is stuffed and try to make Rodgers' arm fall off. They will also blitz more than usual and run the ball to keep the Green Bay offense off the field.
Prediction: Late field goal gives the win to the Pack. Packers 24, Jets 21
Titans at Chargers
8 of 13
Why the Titans Will Win: If Vince Young is back he is a match up nightmare, and if Kerry Collins is under center he can hang with the Chargers in a shoot out. Plus Chris Johnson is pretty good, too.
Why the Chargers Will Win: This is usually when they pick themselves off the mat every year and run the table. Rivers can and will throw the pill to keep them in it. But what is going to happen with Ryan Mathews and the running game? I say he bounces back.
Prediction: Chargers win at home to show proof of life. Chargers 30, Titans 24
Buccaneers at Cardinals
9 of 13
Why the Bucs Will Win: Head coach Raheem Morris says that Tampa is the best team in the NFC, so he better prove it. I like Josh Freeman throwing to Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow early and often. Last stand for the Cadillac before handing over the spot to one of the younger backs.
Why the Cardinals Will Win. Umm.... Great weather? Beanie Wells is a potential big-time player, and Larry Fitzgerald is a certified stud. If Max Hall can get the ball to him, then they have a puncher's chance.
Prediction: It might not even be that close, but... Buccaneers 27, Cardinals 14
Vikings at Patriots
10 of 13
Why the Vikings Will Win: Brett Favre forces his way onto the field and calls up every fiber of strength that he can muster to orchestrate one last magical victory... More likely Adrian Peterson runs wild against a young Pats D. Randy Moss coming back to New England might be a small sub-plot as well.
Why the Patriots Will Win: Belichick throws caution to the wind and blitzes Favre until he finally has to leave the game. Tavaris Jackson tries to save the team, but it is too little too late. Brady throws for three touchdowns, then hugs Moss as they touch each others hair after the game.
Prediction: The last game of the season for Brett Favre. Patriots 30, Vikings 17
Seahawks at Raiders
11 of 13
Why the Seahawks Will Win: Marshawn Lynch will put the team on his back and prove he is a workhorse. The Raiders are known for having a pretty good defense, but they can be run on. Mike Williams will out-jump someone in the end zone for a score as well.
Why the Raiders Will Win: They will ride the momentum of last week and try to run Seattle out of the stadium. Darren McFadden is finally proving that he is the real deal, and Michael Bush can ground and pound with the best of them.
Prediction: The Polish hammer leads the way, late. Raiders 20, Seahawks 14
Steelers at Saints
12 of 13
Why the Steelers Will Win: They will re-establish the running game that they couldn't get going last week. Rashard Mendenhall will get to see some holes. Hines Ward over the middle, Mike Wallace deep. The Steelers have a lot of weapons.
Why the Saints Will Win. It's getting late early for the defending champs. Reggie Bush might be back, but he probably won't be a factor. Brees will probably have to come up with some clutch throws to pull this one off.
Prediction: New Orleans is getting healthier, but they just won't have enough running yards to keep the Steelers honest. Steelers 24, Saints 21
Texans at Colts
13 of 13
Why the Texans Will Win: Same as it ever was. They will run Arian Foster until the Colts stop him, and if that time ever comes, they will then go to Mr. All-World himself, Andre Johnson. Why stop what works?
Why the Colts Will Win: Peyton Manning will take this game on as a personal challenge. If the Colts can make enough stops to keep it close, Manning will engineer a late winning drive.
Prediction: Manning won't have a chance to pull out the late win. Texans 35, Colts 24
