NFL Week 8: Picking The Scores of Each Game
We are eight weeks into the 2010 NFL season, and I cannot remember a season that has been as unpredictable as this one.
In the league, there are only a few teams who you can say are legitimately a good team, and the majority of these teams fall in the AFC.
In the NFC, the conference is literally wide open. The defending champs, the Saints have struggled and something just seems off with this team.
Enough of me talking, here are my week eight NFL predictions.
Top QB: Matt Schaub - 31-41, 387 yards, 3 TDs
Top RB: Ryan Torain - 24 carries, 188 yards, TD
Top WR: Brandon Marshall - 10 catches, 185 yards, TD
Top Kicker: Neil Rackers
Top Defense: Dallas Cowboys
Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs
1 of 13
One of the biggest surprise teams of the season thus far is the Kansas City Chiefs, who come into their game 4-2 against the winless Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs young talent on offense, a solid defense, and a coach who is fearless have this team headed in the right direction.
Meanwhile, things are not looking good in Buffalo. The Bills came ever so close to their first victory of the season last week in Baltimore, but could not pull it out in overtime. Ryan Fitzpatrick had the best game of his career and will look to build on it this week with a win.
The Bills defense has been awful this season, and expect the Chiefs to run all over them with the rushing attack of Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles.
The Chiefs will improve to 5-2 and continue to be one of the shockers of the season.
Fearless Forecast: Chiefs 24, Bills 16
Jacksonville Jaguars at Dallas Cowboys
2 of 13
The Cowboys had one thing in mind heading into the season: a Super Bowl title. Now, with Tony Romo out with a broken collarbone, and the Cowboys at 1-5, it appears those plans will have to be put on hold. Jon Kitna, 38 years young, will fill the void.
Luckily for the Cowboys, the Kitna era will get off to a good start. Playing against a Jags secondary that ranks among the worst in the league, Kitna should have no problems.
Not to mention, the Jags will likely be without David Garrard for the second straight week.
The Cowboys will ease the pain on their fans, at least for a week.
Fearless Forecast: Cowboys 27, Jaguars 14
Carolina Panthers at St.Louis Rams
3 of 13
The Rams had a golden opportunity to win their first road game of the season last week, but lost on a late Josh Freeman touchdown pass. Now, they return home, where they are 3-0.
After an 0-5 start, the Panthers picked up their first win of the season, and the offense looked more alive under Matt Moore. Can they get their second straight win in St. Louis?
Sam Bradford has the Rams on the rise and will put the Rams back at 500.
Fearless Forecast: Rams 20, Panthers 7
Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers (London)
4 of 13
Could the NFL have picked a worse game to be played in London than this one?
The Broncos are 2-5, and fresh off of a 59-14 embarrassment at home against the Raiders. Meanwhile the 49ers have been one of the many disappointments of the season.
At 1-6 and in dead last in the bad NFC West, Mike Singletary insists his team can still make the playoffs. Sorry, Mike, I hate to burst your bubble, but the season is over.
Former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith sill start this week due to Alex Smith's injury, I guess that is something to be semi-optimistic about if you are a Niners fan.
I have no idea who will win this game, but one thing I do know is that the Broncos can't look as bad as they did last week.
I'll go with the 49ers, why not.
Fearless Forecast: 49ers 20, Broncos 17
Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals
5 of 13
At 2-4 with a struggling defense, the Bengals season is danger of falling apart with a loss here. With their next two games following this one against the Steelers and Colts, a win here would be huge and can save their season.
However, the Dolphins might have something to say about that. Unlike the Rams, the Dolphins are undefeated on the road, but have failed to win a home game. That doesn't make sense, right? But then again, what does make sense this season?
For the Bengals to win this game, their defense is going to have to come alive as they got lit up last week for 39 points. The positive thing out of their loss was that the offense showed up with Carson Palmer having his best game of the season.
It seems that I pick against the Dolphins every week, and I'm going to do it again. They will suffer their first road loss of the season here.
Fearless Forecast: Bengals 23, Dolphins 20
Washington Redskins at Detroit Lions
6 of 13
The Redskins' main problem so far this season has been their inconsistency. At 4-3, they have already equaled their win total from a season ago, but can they keep it going in Detroit?
The Lions offense is explosive and gets back Matthew Stafford, who will return from a shoulder injury. This team puts up points and has been competitive in nearly every game this season. Unfortunately, all they have to show for it is one win.
I have a feeling this game will be a shootout, with the Lions winning their second game of the year and beating the Redskins for the second season in a row.
Fearless Forecast: Lions 31, Redskins 27
Green Bay Packers at New York Jets
7 of 13
After losing their first game of the season, the Jets have been red hot, winning five games in a row. They look like the best team in the league right now, and all the moves they made during the off-season are looking genius.
The story hasn't been the same for the Packers, who are 4-3 and have just been decimated by injuries. It all started Week 1 when Ryan Grant was announced out for the season, and since then it has just been a domino effect.
This is one of the most interesting games of the week, and I like the Jets to come off strong following their bye week and win their sixth straight game.
Fearless Forecast: Jets 24, Packers 17
Tennessee Titans at San Diego Chargers
8 of 13
Every year it seems the Chargers get off to a slow start. This season it's been no different, but can they recover? A loss here and the Bolts would fall to 2-6, with their playoff hopes fading away.
It won't be easy against a 5-2 Titans team. It's still uncertain whether Vince Young will be starting, and if he cannot go, than Kerry Collins would get the nod for the second straight week. From what we saw last week against the Eagles, Collins can fill in quite nicely.
The Chargers are desperate and a win here can save their season. Phillip Rivers will have a big day and try to get the Chargers back on the right track.
Fearless Forecast: Chargers 24, Titans 23
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Arizona Cardinals
9 of 13
The Bucs have been a pleasant surprise this season, and Josh Freeman is growing up before our eyes. At 4-2, Raheem Morris says this is the best team in the NFC. Sorry, Raheem but I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one.
Although, they have a golden chance to get to 5-2 against the Cardinals.
How much do the Cardinals miss Kurt Warner right now? Cardinals fans have seen a huge drop off as this team is struggling immensely, lacking a consistent quarterback. They are hoping that rookie Max Hall can be that guy.
This is another one of those toss-up games, but I firmly believe the Bucs are a better team than the Cardinals, which is why I'm going with Tampa.
Fearless Forecast: Buccaneers 20, Cardinals 17
Minnesota Vikings at New England Patriots
10 of 13
In perhaps the most interesting game of Week 8, Randy Moss returns to New England, a place he left on bad terms. You can bet your money's worth that the fans in Foxborough will greet him with loud and astounding flurries of boos.
Everything about this game says the Patriots will win. Brett Favre is hurting bad, right now it looks like his consecutive game streak of 315 games in a row (including the playoffs) might be jeopardy. If that's the case, than Tavaris Jackson will get the start.
Can Jackson give the Vikings a spark? I have a feeling we'll see a heavy dose of Adrian Peterson in this one.
I like the Patriots in this one.
Fearless Forecast: Patriots 27, Vikings 17
Seattle Seahawks at Oakland Raiders
11 of 13
Raise your hand if you thought the team that scored 59 points this season would be, wait for it...the Oakland Raiders. Where did that offensive explosion come from? Can they build on it?
I like their chances too. As I have well established in previous weeks, the Seahawks are a bad road team, which opens the door for the Raiders to get to 500.
Having said that, the Seahawks have been playing good football recently, and Mike Williams has been a huge part of their success. Pete Carroll must know something we don't, because Williams looks just as good as he did at USC.
I like the Raiders in this game, Tom Cable has this team playing hard.
Fearless Forecast: Raiders 17, Seahawks 10
Pittsburgh Steelers at New Orleans Saints
12 of 13
Let me first say this: The Saints are not winning this game unless something drastically changed from last week. There is no excuse to get dominated by the Cleveland Browns at home. It's that simple. Since when is the Browns defense like the Ravens in 2000?
The road gets harder for the defending champs this week as the Steelers come to town, and they are playing like the best team in football in addition to the Jets.
Ben Roethlisberger's return came at a perfect time, and the Steelers are thinking one thing: a Super Bowl.
Fearless Forecast: Steelers 23, Saints 13
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
13 of 13
I know I shouldn't be picking the Texans, seeing as they are impossible to trust, but I don't care, I like them in this one.
Both teams will be well rested coming off of their bye weeks, but the Colts are hurting, with injuries to Dallas Clark, Austin Collie, and Joseph Addai.
Do you realize how big a win would be for the Texans? A win here would put them at 5-2, and a sweep over the Colts for the season. If they can't make the playoffs with that then I don't know how they can.
I'm really excited for this game, and how the Texans respond. I'm rolling the dice here.
Fearless Forecast: Texans 34, Colts 30
