NFL Power Rankings Week 8: Who Is No. 1 For The Second Week in a Row?
Week 7 of the 2010 NFL regular season has come and gone, and is in the books.
There were many surprises this past weekend including: the Browns beating up the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Raiders completely destroying the Broncos, and the Bills nearly pulling off the upset against the Ravens.
How can you not love this type of drama?!
Anyway, once again, I am Daniel Wolf, Bleacher Report's NFL featured content coordinator, and this is my updated NFL power rankings.
32. Buffalo Bills (0-6)
1 of 32
Last game: Lost 37-34 to the Ravens
Last week's ranking: 32
Even WR Lee Evans' three touchdown performance was not enough to lift the Bills out of the winless category.
Next week: At Chiefs
31. San Francisco 49ers (1-6)
2 of 32
Last game: Lost 23-20 to the Panthers
Last week's ranking: 30
Looks like it will be QB David Carr's turn to right this ship now that Alex Smith is hurting.
Next week: Home vs. Broncos
30. Carolina Panthers (1-5)
3 of 32
Last game: Won 23-20 over the 49ers
Last week's ranking: 31
Matt Moore was able to lead the Panthers to their first win of the season. Take a seat Jimmy Clausen...for now.
Next week: At Rams
29. Detroit Lions (1-5)
4 of 32
Last game: BYE
Last week's ranking: 28
The Lions have been competitive but they need to put all the pieces together at the same time to win more games.
Here's a game plan that might help lead to more wins: get Calvin "Megatron" Johnson the ball more.
Next week: Home vs. Redskins
28. Dallas Cowboys (1-5)
5 of 32
Last game: Lost 41-35 to the Giants
Last week's ranking: 26
Wade Phillips' seat is getting hotter as the weeks go by and QB Tony Romo breaking his clavicle doesn't help either Phillips or the team.
Next week: Home vs. Jaguars
27. Denver Broncos (2-5)
6 of 32
Last game: Lost 59-14 to the Raiders
Last week's ranking: 25
There is really no hotter coaching seat than Josh McDaniels' after that blowout loss to Oakland.
Next week: At 49ers
26. Cleveland Browns (2-5)
7 of 32
Last game: Won 30-17 over the Saints
Last week's ranking: 29
The Browns go into their bye week feeling good after beating the champs, but coming back from the bye, they have a tough schedule facing the Patriots and Jets in the two weeks following their bye. Ouch.
Next week: BYE
25. San Diego Chargers (2-5)
8 of 32
Last game: Lost 23-20 to the Pats
Last week's ranking: 24
Norv Turner's seat has to be heating up and he really needs to get better play from his team. Otherwise, he will be looking for a new job sooner than later.
Next week: Home vs. Titans
24. Cincinnati Bengals (2-4)
9 of 32
Last game: Lost 39-32 to the Falcons
Last week's ranking: 23
QB Carson Palmer looked like his old self this past Sunday, throwing for over 400 yards and three touchdowns. But even those numbers were not enough to secure a win.
Next week: Home vs. Dolphins
23. Minnesota Vikings (2-4)
10 of 32
Last game: Lost 28-24 to the Packers
Last week's ranking: 20
Brett Favre has been down all season so far and now he could be out too. Favre reportedly has two fractures in his ankle and this does not bode well for the struggling Vikings.
Next week: At Patriots
22. Oakland Raiders (3-4)
11 of 32
Last game: Won 59-14 over the Broncos
Last week's ranking: 27
RB Darren McFadden had four total touchdowns on Sunday and he really did look "Bo Jackson-like" on the field during several of his runs.
Next week: Home vs. Seahawks
21. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4)
12 of 32
Last game: Lost 42-20 to the Chiefs
Last week's ranking: 21
There is no doubt the Jags need QB David Garrard back as soon as possible. Otherwise there might be more losses like the one they had on Sunday in their near future.
Next week: At Cowboys
20. St. Louis Rams (3-4)
13 of 32
Last game: Lost 18-17 to the Bucs
Last week's ranking: 22
Congrats are in order for RB Steven Jackson, who broke Eric Dickerson's all-time team rushing record.
This is a tremendous accomplishment seeing as how the Rams have not been the best team in the league the past few seasons. But Jackson still kept running hard even though he was the only featured weapon on the offense.
Next week: Home vs. Panthers
19. Arizona Cardinals (3-3)
14 of 32
Last game: Lost 22-10 to the Seahawks
Last week's ranking: 18
You can bet Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is regretting his decision to cut Matt Leinart right about now. First Derek Anderson, then Max Hall, now back to Anderson.
How about giving John Skelton a shot next? Why not?
Next week: Home vs. Bucs
18. Miami Dolphins (3-3)
15 of 32
Last game: Lost 23-22 to the Steelers
Last week's ranking: 13
Chad Henne played a great game against the Steelers (94 QB rating), but Big Ben played just a tad bit better to get his team the win instead.
Next week: At Bengals
17. Chicago Bears (4-3)
16 of 32
Last game: Lost 17-14 to the Redskins
Last week's ranking: 11
Jay Cutler threw four interceptions to Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall.
Why he continued to throw at Hall after the second pick is the real question here.
Next week: BYE
16. Green Bay Packers (4-3)
17 of 32
Last game: Won 28-24 over the Vikes
Last week's ranking: 16
Aaron Rodgers continues to throw the ball really well, but he also needs to throw the ball to the right colored jerseys more often too.
He has nine interceptions and is on pace to end the season with over 20.
Next week: At Jets
15. Washington Redskins (4-3)
18 of 32
Last game: Won 17-14 over the Bears
Last week's ranking: 15
The holidays came early for DeAngelo Hall who was on the receiving end of four Jay Cutler interceptions and he took one to the house for a score.
Next week: At Lions
14. Philadelphia Eagles (4-3)
19 of 32
Last game: Lost 37-19 to the Titans
Last week's ranking: 12
Kevin Kolb hasn't looked suspect since starting for Michael Vick, but clearly the Eagles are a better team with Vick at the helm.
Next week: BYE
13. New Orleans Saints (4-3)
20 of 32
Last game: Lost 30-17 to the Browns
Last week's ranking: 4
The Browns showed the NFL how to get under Drew Brees' skin and that is to show him defensive formations that includes one without a single lineman with a hand on the ground.
Next week: Home vs. Steelers
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)
21 of 32
Last game: Won 18-17 over the Rams
Last week's ranking: 17
QB Josh Freeman may look like the real deal as the weeks go by, but how about undrafted rookie RB LeGarrette Blount running for 72 yards with a 6.5 yard per average carry?
Next week: At Cardinals
11. Seattle Seahawks (4-2)
22 of 32
Last game: Won 22-10 over the Cards
Last week's ranking: 19
Rookie safety Earl Thomas has put a bid in for himself to be a contender for the 2010 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Thomas, the Lions' Ndamukong Suh, and the Browns' TJ Ward are all early candidates.
Next week: At Raiders
10. Kansas City Chiefs (4-2)
23 of 32
Last game: Won 42-20 over the Jags
Last week's ranking: 14
Thirty-two year old RB Thomas Jones is still denying the football gods and the 30-year-old RB wall by helping the Chiefs have the second-ranked running attack in the NFL. He is 10th in the NFL with a 4.7 yards per carry average.
Next week: Home vs. Bills
9. Houston Texans (4-2)
24 of 32
Last game: BYE
Last week's ranking: 10
Can coach Gary Kubiak and his team beat Peyton Manning and the Colts for a season sweep on Monday Night Football next week?
Next week: At Colts
8. NY Giants (5-2)
25 of 32
Last game: Won 41-35 over the Cowboys
Last week's ranking: 9
Eli Manning really is lucky to have such a young trio of receivers at his disposal with Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith and Mario Manningham.
This group will put up big numbers for many years to come.
Next week: BYE
7. Baltimore Ravens (5-2)
26 of 32
Last game: Won 37-34 over the Bills
Last week's ranking: 6
Ed Reed is back and the Bills found that out the hard way since Reed had two interceptions in his first game of the 2010 season.
Next week: BYE
6. Atlanta Falcons (5-2)
27 of 32
Last game: Won 39-32 over the Bengals
Last week's ranking: 8
Gotta give credit where credit is due and WR Roddy White is having a sensational season so far.
White has 54 receptions for 747 yards and five touchdowns.
Next week: BYE
5. Indianapolis Colts (4-2)
28 of 32
Last game: BYE
Last week's ranking: 5
Peyton Manning has lost one of his favorite targets, Dallas Clark, for the season.
Plus, Anthony Gonzalez and Austin Collie are still hurting.
Who will step up their game?
Or will Manning learn to throw the ball deep to himself? (Joke.)
Next week: Home vs. Texans
4. Tennessee Titans (5-2)
29 of 32
Last game: Won 37-19 over the Eagles
Last week's ranking: 7
With Vince Young out, Kerry Collins steps in and the Titans offense doesn't miss a beat.
You can bet Kenny Britt was happy with Collins throwing him the ball all day on Sunday!
Next week: At Chargers
3. New England Patriots (5-1)
30 of 32
Last game: Won 23-20 over the Chargers
Last week's ranking: 3
I will honestly admit that I love watching Danny Woodhead play.
He is so small and the defenders have such a hard time seeing him, and tackling him too, because of it.
Love it!
Next week: Home vs. Vikings
2. NY Jets (5-1)
31 of 32
Last game: BYE
Last week's ranking: 2
Can QB Mark Sanchez go back to playing mistake free football after having a week off?
My fantasy team really hopes so.
Next week: Home vs. Packers
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1)
32 of 32
Last game: Won 23-22 over the Fins
Last week's ranking: 1
And there you have it. Not since the Saints were No. 1 for the first two weeks has an NFL team maintained its top ranking until now.
The scary part is that Big Ben is playing football and throwing the ball around the field like he never missed a game this season.
Next week: At Saints
