Miami Heat: King LeBron James Wants To Wish You All a Happy Hater Day

Josh McCainOct 19, 2010

I just don't get LeBron James.

For a man who claims not to care what others think of him, he spends a lot of time talking about those who "hate on" him.

For instance he tweeted today, "Today is Hater Day. Everyone please let them get their 2 mins of fame and light! I Love You Haters. Continue to make me proud of u guys! LOL".

Honestly LeBron, why do you yearn for these so called "haters" to love you?

As a Bleacher Report writer I get plenty of hate (like I probably will for this article) in the comments section, especially when I come down on a team or player.

I don't have 1/1,000,000th of LeBron's fame or money, but I know how to deal with my critics.

If what they say about me is intelligible and helpful, I take the advice (sometimes use it) and move on. If it's someone calling me an idiot or just spouting off hate, then I maybe read a line or two and move on.

Either way, once I'm done with it, I'm done with it. I don't go back.

All LeBron accomplishes by constantly addressing his "haters" is giving them more power, so to speak.

It gives them a voice and allows them to get louder, where if he didn't address them for the most part they'd go away.

Take Kobe Bryant for example. He might have been the most hated man in the NBA at one time.

He had a messy divorce with Shaq in Los Angelos, cheated on his wife, was then accused of rape by the girl with whom he cheated, and then talked about leaving L.A. for Chicago.

I remember that summer turning on Sports Center and seeing a brand new story about Kobe every day. All I was waiting for was one that had a picture of him shaking hands with Satan.

How did Kobe go from being a pariah to the assuming superstar with multiple titles without Shaq?

He, for the most part, kept his mouth shut.

He apologized for the wrongs he had done (something LeBron hasn't done), quietly made amends with his wife, and then took the Lakers to three straight NBA Finals and winning two of them.

Now, for a moment, let's take a look at reasons to hate LeBron James:

1. Before even entering the NBA he was labeled King James and the next Michael Jordan.

2. He doesn't play for your team.

3. Poor sport towards Orlando when they beat his Cavilers in the Eastern Conference Finals

4. The Decision on ESPN.

5. Claiming racism for people's reaction to The Decision on ESPN.

I'm sure we could throw a bunch more out there, but these are pretty much the biggies when it comes to LeBron.

Now, number one isn't really his fault.  That was more or less the NBA, Cleavland Cavilers, and Nike's doing to hype up the number one pick for the draft.  Sure James played it up, but when your 18 and all this hype and money is being thrown your way there isn't much else you wouldn't do.

Number two is a legitimate reason to not like LeBron. He is, after all, a difference maker and holds the ability to take over a game. Unless you're the Lakers or Celtics, King James on the court almost always spells doom for your team.

A bit of analysis will show that numbers three, four, and five come as a result of number one. LeBron was never confronted with adversity on the basketball court in high school. He was playing at a level where he was always going to be leaps and bounds better than everyone else.

However, when he got to the NBA, the game changed entirely. He immediately learned that there were others just as good as he was, and that there were simply teams he couldn't beat on his own (Orlando, Boston, San Antonio, etc.).

So I wasn't surprised when he walked off the court without shaking hands with anyone after falling to the Orlando Magic.  That year was supposed to be LeBron's year. And the fact that it slipped right through his fingers could only mean that his insecurities and flaws as a player were going to take center stage.

Now we come to the Decision, ESPN's failed attempt to give Lebron James the chance to experience the pursuit of major organization for high class talent; a process that he apparently missed out on by deciding to forgo college and enter the NBA draft after his senior year.

Frankly, all that is a load of bull. It wasn't like LeBron was forbidden to go to college. He chose not to based upon what would be best financially and professionally for he and his family. No one personally restricted him from entering. I find it sad to see a man who needs to feel wanted by million dollar organizations and constantly attempting to draw their attention, when he is already the center of their universe. Is this some narcissistic ploy fueled by Lebron's ego? I'd say so.

Then after the backlash of the Decision came, LeBron's friend and marketing agent Maverick Carter claimed it was due to racism. LeBron foolishly followed along, and what a horror story that became. To claim that people are discriminating against your outrageous marketing techniques is absurd, especially when one considers these are the same people who have shown their love and support year after year.

Now I don't hate on LeBron, even though I've given you five reason why I could.

Honestly, I'm indifferent.

Either way, LeBron needs to stop worrying so much about his "haters" and start worrying about his legacy.

The guy is in danger of being like Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, or Patrick Ewing.  Great player during the regular season that could never get it done in the post season.

So LeBron, I too would like to wish you a happy Hater Day and I hope you enjoy all those people tweeting at you to get there two minutes of fame.

I, however, won't be one of them.
