BCS Standings 2010: What The Rankings SHOULD Look Like
For the 12th straight year, college football fans are subjected to the BCS.
The Bowl Championship Series is the name given to the convoluted system used to determine a champion, though strange formulas and polls with names like the Colley Matrix.
In any case, it seems university presidents and athletic directors around the country are married to this system and we will be stuck with it for the foreseeable future. Here's a look at what the standings SHOULD look like.
5. LSU Tigers
1 of 5
It hasn't been pretty for the LSU Tigers this year, but when has it ever been for Les Miles' team? They have played a really tough schedule, and it's not going to get any easier.
Tough conference match-ups with the No. 4 Auburn Tigers and the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide will let the world know whether LSU is a contender or a pretender.
As of now, however, they are an undefeated SEC team, which is good enough to earn them the 5 spot.
4. Auburn Tigers
2 of 5
The Auburn Tigers looked mighty impressive this weekend putting 65 points on the No. 12 Arkansas Razorbacks.
As another undefeated SEC team, Auburn has to rank near the top when ranking all the teams in the country. Cam Newton continues to impress, especially on the ground. He toted the rock 25 times for 188 yards and 3 touchdowns this past Saturday.
If they can continue their dominance, they will be in the hunt for the National Championship game all year.
3. Boise State Broncos
3 of 5
The Boise State Broncos have gone from America's Cinderella team to a pariah; to some, this team represents all that is wrong with the BCS. Some say they do not deserve to play in the National Championship because they are not from a BCS conference.
The fact of the matter is that Boise State has beaten every team they've played, including Virginia Tech and Oregon State. The rest of their opponents have been nothing special, but the games haven't been close, either.
Kellen Moore and the Boise State offense are good enough to take on any team in the country. If they stay undefeated, chances are they will get to prove their mettle in Glendale.
2. Oklahoma Sooners
4 of 5
The real BCS Standings have Oklahoma as the No. 1 team in the country. They've been great this season, but they're not the best.
That being said, this is an impressive football team. In the pass-happy Big 12, the Sooners fit right in with Landry Jones guiding one of the most explosive offenses in the nation.
This weekend's game with No. 11 Missouri will decide their fate. The rest of their games should be easy, except for the season finale with in-state rival No. 14 Oklahoma State.
1. Oregon Ducks
5 of 5
It seems obvious who the No. 1 team in the country is: the Oregon Ducks.
They have simply rolled on every opponent they've faced this year, and their offense is the best in the country. With a defense ranked 16th in the country, they have proved that they can get it done on both sides of the ball.
They'll be big favorites in the remainder of their games, with their only remaining ranked opponent being No. 18 University of Arizona. Barring a big upset, look for the Oregon Ducks to be playing for the BCS National Championship on January 10, 2011.
