BCS Rankings 2010: 10 Teams That Will Benefit Most From the Alabama Loss
Granted, there are likely more than just 10 teams that will benefit from Alabama’s latest loss to Steve Spurrier and South Carolina, but let’s keep it as simple as possible heading into Week 7 of the college football season.
So, what 10 teams will benefit the most from the Crimson Tide’s Week 6 loss to the Gamecocks?
Let’s begin…
No. 10: Utah (5-0)
1 of 10
The undefeated Utah Utes will absolutely be benefiting from former No. 1 Alabama’s loss to South Carolina this past weekend.
First and foremost, Utah (5-0) has moved up to No. 10 in the latest coaches' poll. In addition, with 940 points, the Utes are nearing the 1,000 mark and definitely have a chance at reaching a top-notch BCS bowl if they keep things up.
Plus, if some of those teams above them happen to lose in the long road ahead for college football, Utah could very well find themselves in the chase for the BCS Title Game.
No. 9: Oklahoma (5-0)
2 of 10
The Big 12’s Oklahoma Sooners are also undefeated heading into Week 7 of the NCAA football season, and will also be benefiting from the Crimson Tide’s weekend loss to the Gamecocks.
With 1,193 points in this week’s Coaches Poll, look for the Sooners to be in the hunt for the BCS Title Game.
And although the season is only halfway complete, I wouldn’t be surprised if Oklahoma has a shot at one of those coveted top two spots come December.
No. 8: LSU (6-0)
3 of 10
The LSU Tigers have to feel pretty screwed right about now.
But that doesn’t mean the Tigers won’t be in the hunt for January’s BCS Title Game.
And with 1,021 in this week’s coaches' poll, look for LSU to be a top-10 team when next week’s BCS rankings are released.
The Tigers will also have a chance to garner one of those coveted top two spots as the 2010 NCAA football season rolls on.
No. 7: Auburn (6-0)
4 of 10
Alabama’s arch-rival, the Auburn Tigers, will also be benefiting from the Crimson Tide’s weekend loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Auburn, currently sitting pretty at 6-0, currently has 1,060 points in the latest coaches' poll.
These Tigers, just as the aforementioned striped kitties, will also be in the hunt for January’s BCS Title Game.
No. 6: Nebraska (5-0)
5 of 10
Nebraska’s final season in the Big 12 may end up being quite a successful year.
At 5-0 and currently No. 4 in the latest Coaches Poll, look for Nebraska to be one of the final contenders for the BCS Title Game.
The Cornhuskers also have 1,272 points heading into the final week before the official BCS standings are released.
No. 5: TCU (6-0)
6 of 10
The TCU Horned Frogs will, no doubt about it, be in the hunt for January’s BCS Title Game after Alabama’s heart-breaking loss to South Carolina.
TCU, undefeated at 6-0, currently has 1,213 votes in the latest coaches' poll heading into next week’s BCS rankings revealing.
Will they be one of those top two teams come late December?
Only time will tell…
No. 4: Boise State (5-0)
7 of 10
The Boise State Broncos have also got to be buzzing after Alabama’s latest loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Why? Because Bama’s loss is Boise State’s gain.
The Broncos, currently No. 3 in the coaches' poll with 1,335 points, have more than a fighting chance of garnering the coveted BCS Title Game.
The biggest question now is, can Boise State do it?
No. 3: South Carolina (4-1)
8 of 10
Of all the teams that SHOULD benefit from Alabama’s latest loss, it SHOULD be the South Carolina Gamecocks—who defeated the Crimson Tide this past week to sink the former No. 1 team.
South Carolina, 4-1 overall and currently ranked No. 12 in the coaches' poll, has 835 points heading into the first week of the BCS rankings.
Is there still time for the Gamecocks to make a run for that BCS Title Game?
Absolutely; no doubt about it…
No. 2: Oregon (6-0)
9 of 10
Oregon could easily be No. 1 on this list, but no matter how you look at it the Ducks will absolutely benefit from this past weekend’s Alabama loss.
The Ducks, currently undefeated at 6-0, are No. 2 in this week’s coaches' poll and have garnered 1,388 points.
Meaning that if Oregon can continue winning, it will most likely be heading to the BCS Title Game come January 2011.
No. 1: Ohio State (6-0)
10 of 10
Of all the teams to benefit the most from Alabama’s loss to South Carolina, it has got to be the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes, currently ranked No. 1 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll, have 1,455 points in the latest rankings heading into next week’s BCS revealing.
That means Ohio State is a no-brainer winner in terms of BCS rankings, and if the Buckeyes can continue winning in 2010, they’ll be heading to the BCS Title Game.
But it’s a damn long season, and it should be a great ride…
