Fantasy Football Week 4: Top 20 Touchdown Targets You Must Play

Sam WestmorelandSep 28, 2010

As Fantasy Football moves into Week 4, we enter the dreaded "bye" stage of the season. Players will soon be taking their week off left and right, leaving you scrambling for production at many positions.

But fear not, as these 20 players are guaranteed to score you at least one coveted touchdown during Week 4.

20. Kevin Walter, WR, Houston Texans

1 of 20
HOUSTON - SEPTEMBER 12: Wide receiver Kevin Walter #83 of the Houston Texans runs for a touchdown past Kelvin Hayden #26 of the Indianapolis Colts during the NFL season opener at Reliant Stadium on September 12, 2010 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Ronald

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Defenses seem to be keying on stopping Andre Johnson, but they're leaving the sure-handed Walter alone in the red zone. He's scored a touchdown all three weeks of the season thus far.

The Matchup: Oakland's defense is ranked tenth against the pass, but Walter's the second or third option, meaning he doesn't have to worry about Nnamdi Asomugha.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. With Johnson locked down by Asomugha, and Owen Daniels still getting back into the swing of things, expect Kevin Walter to get plenty of red zone looks.

19. Malcom Floyd, WR, San Diego Chargers

2 of 20
SAN DIEGO - SEPTEMBER 19: Wide receiver Malcom Floyd #80 of the San Diego Chargers crosses the goal line with a touchdown reception against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Qualcomm Stadium on September 19, 2010 in San Diego, California. The Chargers won 38

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: After a lackluster Week 1, Floyd has scored a touchdown in both Weeks 2 and 3, and has become one of Philip Rivers' favorite targets deep or in the red zone.

The Matchup: The Cardinals struggled to contain the Oakland Raiders last week. Think the Chargers won't exploit that weakness?

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. There's a chance Rivers decides to spread the love around to other targets this week, but given the connection he's established with Floyd, a score seems pretty likely.

18. Cedric Benson, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

3 of 20

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Like Floyd, Benson has overcome a subpar Week 1 to turn into regular point producer. He seemed to return to his 2009 form in Week 3, racking up 81 yards and a score.

The Matchup: Cleveland's run defense is ranked seventh in the NFL right now, but so was Baltimore's and Benson had a decent game against them.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. Benson's going to be a reliable fanatasy running back, and he should have a good day against the Browns' defense.

GLENDALE, AZ - SEPTEMBER 26: Runningback Larry Fitzgerald #11 of the Arizona Cardinals runs with the football after a reception against Nnamdi Asomugha #21 and Mike Mitchell #34 of the Oakland Raiders during the third quarter of the NFL game at the Unive

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: It doesn't matter whether he has a good day or a bad one, Fitz is Arizona's most reliable red zone presence, and they try to feed him the ball whenever possible there.

The Matchup: San Diego's pass defense is pretty solid, but they don't have a lockdown corner like Asomugha to close down Fitzgerald all game long.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. Fitz should get free in the end zone, but there's a chance Derek Anderson won't get him the ball where he can catch it.

16. Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers

5 of 20
TAMPA, FL - SEPTEMBER 26: Running back Rashard Mendenhall #34 of the Pittsburgh Steelers runs the ball against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the game at Raymond James Stadium on September 26, 2010 in Tampa, Florida. The undefeated Steelers won 38-13.

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Mendenhall's been a workhorse for the Steelers through three weeks of the season, and until Big Ben returns, he'll remain the team's most reliable option.

The Matchup: Baltimore ranks second against the run, but I get the feeling Mike Tomlin would rather let Mendenhall carry it than take the risk of Charlie Batch throwing it against that defense.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. Mendenhall could get stuffed this week, but ought to get a couple of goal line looks.

15. Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders

6 of 20
GLENDALE, AZ - SEPTEMBER 26: Runningback Darren McFadden #20 of the Oakland Raiders rushes the football past Paris Lenon #51 of the Arizona Cardinals during the first quarter of the NFL game at the University of Phoenix Stadium on September 26, 2010 in G

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: McFadden seems to be getting better and better with each passing week. He's been a versatile back who can hurt opposing defenses as a runner or a receiver, and he's always going to get his carries with Bruce Gradkowski throwing the ball.

The Matchup: Houston's defense ranks ninth against the run, but that might be a little overblown, considering they played the Colts in Week 1 and the Cowboys in Week 3, neither of whom like to run the ball.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. McFadden shouldn't have much trouble finding the end zone one way or another in this one.

14. Austin Collie, WR, Indianapolis Colts

7 of 20
DENVER - SEPTEMBER 26: Wide receiver Austin Collie #17 of the Indianapolis Colts makes a 23 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter as Perrish Cox #32 of the Denver Broncos defends at INVESCO Field at Mile High on September 26, 2010 in Denver, Col

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Even before Pierre Garcon got hurt in Week 3, it looked like Collie had taken his place as Peyton's third receiving option. He's sure-handed, fast and can jump.

The Matchup: Jacksonville can't stop anybody. Especially not the Colts' passing game.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. The only reason Collie won't get a touchdown against Jacksonville is if Peyton doesn't throw him the ball.

13. Brandon Marshall, WR, Miami Dolphins

8 of 20
MIAMI - SEPTEMBER 26: Receiver Brandon Marshall #19 of the Miami Dolphins celebrates a touchdown against the New York Jets at Sun Life Stadium on September 26, 2010 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Marc Serota/Getty Images)

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Marshall and quarterback Chad Henne finally clicked in Week 3, and Marshall went off. Now, we get to see what he can really do.

The Matchup: New England doesn't have the weapons necessary to contain Brandon Marshall, and their pass defense ranks 27th in the NFL. After all, the Bills could throw on their defense.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. It's possible last week was a one-time thing, and Marshall and Henne will go back to struggling. But I doubt it.

12. DeSean Jackson, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

9 of 20
PHILADELPHIA - AUGUST 13: DeSean Jackson #10 of the Philadelphia Eagles against the Jacksonville Jaguars during their preseason game at Lincoln Financial Field on August 13, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Nick Laham/Getty Images)

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Even when he struggles to get yards (Week 1), Jackson seems to find a way into the end zone. Plus, he and Michael Vick seem to be getting along just fine.

The Matchup: The Redskins have the second-to-worst pass defense in the NFL. Jackson should have a field day against them.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. He's the Eagles' best deep threat, and he shouldn't have any trouble finding the end zone in this one.

11. Randy Moss, WR, New England Patriots

10 of 20

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Defenses have been doing a good job of keeping Moss in check through three weeks. But that hasn't stopped him from finding the end zone three times so far.

The Matchup: Miami's defense has done a good job against the pass this year, ranking ninth. But Moss has a nose for the end zone.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8 of 10. Moss might not get many yards, but he should get his touchdown.

10. Dallas Clark, TE, Indianapolis Colts

11 of 20
HOUSTON - SEPTEMBER 12: Tight end Dallas Clark #44 of the Indianapolis Colts runs the ball against Brice McCain #21 of the Houston Texans during the NFL season opener at Reliant Stadium on September 12, 2010 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Clark is Peyton Manning's second favorite target, and he seems to find the end zone every single week.

The Matchup: Jacksonville's terrible defense. Clark should have no trouble this week.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8.5 of 10. Dallas should have a field day against Jacksonville's defense.

9. Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

12 of 20

JACKSONVILLE, FL - SEPTEMBER 26: Running back Maurice Jones-Drew #32 of the Jacksonville Jaguars finds room to run against the Philadelphia Eagles at EverBank Field on September 26, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Doug Benc/Getty Images)

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Because David Garrard can no longer be trusted to throw the football.

The Matchup: Indy's defense struggles against the run, and Jones-Drew has feasted on them in his career, racking up 778 yards and 7 touchdowns against them.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8.5 of 10. It's possible the Colts can stop him, but not likely.

8. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

13 of 20
CINCINNATI - AUGUST 20: Jeremy Maclin #18 of the Philadelphia Eagles is pictured during the NFL preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on August 20, 2010 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: He doesn't get the yards that DeSean Jackson does, but Maclin's hands have gotten him a touchdown in each of the Eagles' first three games.

The Matchup: The Redskins defense has struggled in every game this season stopping the pass.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8.5 of 10. Vick seems to like looking for Maclin in the red zone, and the Eagles should be there quite a bit this week.

7. Antonio Gates, TE, San Diego Chargers

14 of 20

SEATTLE - SEPTEMBER 26: Tight end Antonio Gates #85 of the San Diego Chargers celebrates with Buster Davis #84 after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field on September 26, 2010 in Seattle, Washington. The S

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Gates is big, fast and reliable, making him the best receiving option in San Diego right now.

The Matchup: Arizona ranks 8th against opposing tight ends, but Gates is more of a wideout than a tight end, and the Cards' defense can't stop much of anything.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8.5 of 10. Gates should get you at least one touchdown against the Cardinals.

6. Frank Gore, RB, San Francisco 49ers

15 of 20
KANSAS CITY, MO - SEPTEMBER 26: Frank Gore #21 of the San Francisco 49ers runs the ball against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on September 26, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs won 31-10. (Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images)

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Gore is currently the only reliable offensive weapon San Francisco has. Until Alex Smith can get his act together, expect Gore to get all the touches in the red zone.

The Matchup: Atlanta ranks 18th against the run, but Gore's versatility increases the likelihood he'll find the painted rectangle.

Likelihood of a Score: 8.5 of 10. Gore will score, because Smith can't throw the ball.

5. LeSean McCoy, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

16 of 20
DETROIT - SEPTEMBER 19: LeSean McCoy #25 of the Philadelphia Eagles scores on a 46 yard touchdown during the fourth quarter of the game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on September 19, 2010 in Detroit, Michigan. The Eagles defeated the Lions 35-3

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Last week aside, the end zone has been magnetic to McCoy, and he's racked up four touchdowns in three weeks.

The Matchup: Washington is ranked 17th against the run, but McCoy should get some goal line and red zone looks.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 8.5 of 10. McCoy could see his scores poached by Vick again in Week 4, but he has a nose for the end zone.

4. Anquan Boldin, WR, Baltimore Ravens

17 of 20
BALTIMORE - SEPTEMBER 26: Anquan Boldin #81 of the Baltimore Ravens scores a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns at M&T Bank Stadium on September 26, 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens lead the Browns at the half 14-10. (Photo by Larry French/Ge

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Boldin is Joe Flacco's favorite target, and when the Ravens throw the ball, it's typically to him.

The Matchup: Pittsburgh's defense has been formidable, but their corners can't lock opposing wideouts down all that well, and they rank 17th in fantasy points allowed to receivers.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 9 of 10. Boldin should get a score despite the Steel Curtain.

3. Reggie Wayne, WR, Indianapolis Colts

18 of 20
DENVER - SEPTEMBER 26: Wide receiver Reggie Wayne #87 of the Indianapolis Colts makes a first down reception as Champ Bailey #24 of the Denver Broncos defends at INVESCO Field at Mile High on September 26, 2010 in Denver, Colorado. The Colts defeated the

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Wayne managed to accrue 65 yards against Champ Bailey last week, and under normal circumstances, he's a lock for a touchdown.

The Matchup: The Jaguars don't have Champ Bailey, or anyone even close to his skill level.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 9.5 of 10. Wayne should have no trouble getting into the end zone this week.

2. Peyton Hillis, RB, Cleveland Browns

19 of 20
CLEVELAND - SEPTEMBER 19: Running back Peyton Hillis #40 of the Cleveland Browns runs the ball for a touchdown as he is hit by linebacker Jovan Belcher #59 of the Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns Stadium on September 19, 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio. (

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: Hillis is the perfect goal line back, and is an excellent runner to boot. He's big and strong, with decent speed and hands. He's also the go-to guy in Cleveland right now.

The Matchup: The Bengals are strong against the run, but so are the Ravens, and Hillis put up 144 yards and a touchdown against them last week.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 9.5 of 10. Even if he doesn't get the yards, Hillis will get his points near the goal line.

1. Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans

20 of 20

Why He's a Touchdown Machine: No one outside of Pittsburgh can stop Chris Johnson. They know he's getting the ball, but they can't stop him from scoring.

The Matchup: Denver ranks fifth against the run, but Johnson is a completely different breed of back than anything they've faced this year. Jones-Drew had a good game, and so will Johnson.

Likelihood of a Touchdown: 10 of 10. Johnson will score this week.
