Oregon Ducks Battle for Pac-10 Supremacy Against the Stanford Cardinal
Two top 10 ranked schools from the Pac-10 face off when the Oregon Ducks host the Stanford Cardinal Saturday. The college football odds makers have set the line for this game and they have the Ducks as a 6.5 point favorite.
Both teams are moving up the rankings, making this an important game in the race for the BCS Championship and the Pac-10 title. The win over Arizona St, paired with the Texas loss to UCLA, moved the Ducks up in the polls and they enter this game ranked fourth in the country.
Stanford beat the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and are now ranked ninth in the country, the highest ranking since 1992.
The Ducks have revenge in mind against Stanford—who beat them last year 51-42—handing the Ducks the only conference loss of the season.
Oregon has one of the best offenses in the country this year. They dominated the first three games of the season winning by a combined score of 189-13, but stumbled in a tough road contest against Arizona St. Quarterback Darron Thomas was asked to step up his game and responded with 260 yards and two touchdowns.
They won the game to remain undefeated, but the usual strong running game was bottled up and the defense gave up huge chunks of yardage to a team with a mediocre offensive unit.
The defense did have some bright spots with seven turnovers, but will have to play much better against a Stanford offense that is explosive. The Cardinal are led by Heisman candidate quarterback Andrew Luck.
Stanford won for the third time in South Bend last Saturday, and first since time in 18 years. The Cardinal are undefeated and stand at 4-0 overall.
Luck struggled against Notre Dame throwing his first two interceptions of the season. Stanford was able to overcome errors and get two touchdowns from Owen Marecic on offense and defense to seal the victory.
If they want to stake their claim for the Pac-10 title they will have to beat the Ducks in a hostile environment.
As if the game was not exciting enough, ESPN announced they are bringing their Gameday crew to Eugene, Ore. this Saturday. This should whip the fans into a feeding frenzy as kickoff approaches.
The Ducks are 16-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last 21 games in October, and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games. Oregon is 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a winning road record, while Stanford is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record.
Oregon will pound the ball with a talented ground attack that is averaging 321 yards per game, and mix in the pass for a solid blend of offensive football. Stanford’s offense is potent but Oregon’s defense is up to the challenge.
The home field advantage is too much for Stanford and the Ducks get revenge in this Pac-10 showdown.
Oregon 46, Stanford 31
