College Football: Where The Top 25 Uncommitted Recruits Will Visit, Consider

Michael PintoSep 27, 2010

For those of you who need more than just your weekly dose of college football action, take a moment for a quick recruiting update.

This time of year the news on the recruiting front is minimal, as most college coaches are concerned with their current teams instead of prospective additions, and most prospects are concerned with their senior seasons rather than their upcoming freshman ones.

But we do have tidbits to share with you and news that recruiting junkies should be craving.

Here's the latest on the top 25 uncommitted prospects of the 2011 recruiting class.

25. DeAnthony Arnett, WR

1 of 25

DeAnthony Arnett is one of the most complete wide receiver prospects in the 2011 class and has drawn a ton of attention from most of the nation's top programs.

He listed his favorites in August as USC, Tennessee, Cal, Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Iowa.

Arnett made an unofficial visit to Tennessee this past weekend for the Vols' contest with Oregon and walked away from the experience with nothing but good things to say.

24. Brandon Shell, OT

2 of 25

5-star offensive tackle Brandon Shell, ranked No. 6 at his position on Scout and No. 10 on Rivals, named his four finalists last week.

"South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson. It's all between those four schools."

While Shell said that he intended to take official visits to all four of his finalists, he hasn't scheduled anything yet and will probably hold off until National Signing Day to announce his commitment.

23. Ishaq Williams, DE

3 of 25

Ishaq Williams is the top prospect from New York, and one of the top defensive ends in the country.

Williams has made visits to Notre Dame, Alabama, Pitt, Syracuse, Penn State, Maryland, and most recently, Rutgers.

He doesn't plan on committing until January but will cut his list to between five and seven schools in the next few weeks.

22. Colt Lyerla, ATH

4 of 25

Lyerla is one of the most versatile athletes of the 2011 class and could potentially play linebacker or safety, and might even find his home at tight end.

He hasn't made a list of official finalists but "off the top of his head" listed Oregon and Oregon State, as well as Oklahoma, Miami, and UCLA.

He doesn't have any visits planned yet and doesn't mind waiting until National Signing Day to commit but says he'll decide whenever he finds the right fit.

21. Anthony Wallace, LB

5 of 25

5-star middle linebacker Anthony Wallace made his first official visit last weekend, and while many experts believed his top choices were Ohio State, Penn State, and Oklahoma, it was Oregon that came first.

He has plans to make official visits to Ohio State and Penn State but is still considering whether to go to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Miami, or USC.

“I’m going to try and take all of my official visits before I commit but if a school feels right then there is a possibility that I might go ahead and commit,” he said.

20. Travis Hughes, LB

6 of 25

Travis Hughes has drawn interest from all over the country and is being recruited primarily as a linebacker, but he might end up at running back at the next level.

It's difficult to judge where Hughes is at, considering he recently said that he would love an offer from Miami yet lists North Carolina as a slight favorite at the moment.

The other schools in the mix are Clemson, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and LSU, though Tennessee is still in hot pursuit.

19. Viliami Moala, DT

7 of 25

Viliami Moala isn't exactly Tim Jernigan, but he's still a 5-star defensive end and has drawn nearly as much interest.

He won't list his favorites at the moment, but fellow defensive tackle, close friend, and Cal commitment Mustafa Jalil has been intensely recruiting Moala to join him as a Golden Bear.

His first official visits were to Washington and Arizona State, and he'd like to head out to Alabama or Florida in the next month. As for USC, UCLA, and Cal? He might just make unofficial visits.

18. Nick O'Leary, TE

8 of 25

Nick O'Leary is right up there with Jay Rome as one of the nation's top tight ends, and while Miami and FSU have long been considered the Florida native's leaders, we're far from a final two.

He lists FSU, Miami, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and North Carolina as his favorites, but his first three official visits won't be to the in-state favorites.

O'Leary will be at the Alabama-Florida game in Tuscaloosa, the Wisconsin-Ohio State game after that, and then heads to Baton Rouge for the LSU-Alabama game.

17. Mike Blakely, RB

9 of 25

Mike Blakely doesn't always get respect from the scouts when it comes to running back rankings, but there's no denying he's one of the top prospects at his position.

His top choices are Florida, Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and USC, but this has really become a two-horse race.

Florida has long been in the lead, but a visit to Auburn last week has the Tigers right up there with the Gators; it would be surprising if it went beyond those two schools.

16. Savon Huggins, RB

10 of 25

Savon Huggins is one of the best home-run hitters of the 2011 class and arguably has the best juke moves of any running back.

He cut his long hist of suitors down to five schools earlier this month: Rutgers, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Florida, and Notre Dame.

Though nothing is set yet, Huggins plans on making visits to all five before coming to a decision.

15. Sammy Watkins, WR

11 of 25

Sammy Watkins is one of the top receivers in the class and has long had his eye on a couple of ACC schools.

His top two choices are Miami and Clemson, and while he hasn't quite called them his finalists, most experts believe this is a two-horse race.

Watkins is digging the vibe at Clemson and seems excited about the possibility of playing alongside Mike Bellamy, Marlin Lane, and Charone Peake.

14. Greg Townsend, DE

12 of 25

Greg Townsend, one of the nation's premier defenders, is close to planning his official visits, and we already have a good idea where he'll be heading after the 5-star prospect gave an update on his target schools.

"USC, Washington, and TCU round out the top three, then comes LSU, Miami, Oregon, and UCLA," said Townsend. "I'd say Washington and USC are recruiting me the most."

He was recently at USC and UCLA, and while the Trojans are considered the leader at the moment, his father played at TCU.

13. Jermauria Rasco, DE

13 of 25

Jermauria Rasco had planned on cutting his list down to five finalists before the season started, but there's no word on that front yet.

The schools recruiting him the hardest are Texas, LSU, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, and UCLA.

This Louisiana native has always said he wouldn't count out the Tigers, but there's no indication they're out in front just yet.

12. Jay Rome, TE

14 of 25

Jay Rome is the top tight end in the nation, and while he'll list five finalists, two schools stand out above the rest.

Though Clemson, Florida, and Tennessee are in the mix, it looks like it's going to come down to Georgia and Alabama at the end of the day.

It's a tight race between these two schools, but no official visits have been set yet.

11. Ray Drew, DE

15 of 25

When it comes to 5-star defensive end Ray Drew, we'll give you the words straight from the horse's mouth.

“Schools that I’m considering that are close are schools like Florida State, FLorida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Georgia Tech, while schools that are distant from me that I like are programs such as LSU, Nebraska, UCLA, USC,California and Syracuse."

Drew's only official visit on the books so far is a trip to Baton Rouge for the LSU game against Tennessee.

10. Stephone Anthony, LB

16 of 25

Stephone Anthony is one of the few elite prospects who knows exactly where his finalists stand.

He plans on making his commitment at the Under Armour All-America Game and favors, in order, Florida, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson, NC State, and Georgia.

While the Hokies have recently made a push, Anthony has favored the Gators right from the get-go.

9. Doran Grant, CB

17 of 25

Doran Grant, the top-rated cornerback of the 2011 class, cut his list down to eight schools earlier this month but wouldn't give a favorite among them.

Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, USC, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Penn State, and Cincinnati are all equal in Grant's eyes at the moment.

Ohio, USC, and North Carolina are recruiting him the hardest, but when asked about official visits, Ohio State and Michigan were the only schools he said he was definitely planning on visiting.

8. George Farmer, WR

18 of 25

George Farmer might be the top receiver in the country, and recently reporters caught up with his father for the latest news.

Farmer's top five choices are USC, Oregon, Alabama, Miami, and Florida, but George Sr. described his son's process as exhausting.

While most experts believe that he's a lock for the Trojans, it's not done yet.

What's most important to him is playing time and a good education, and that's about as much as you're going to get from this storyline until further notice.

7. Curtis Grant, LB

19 of 25

Grant has nearly 30 offers on the table, most notably from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Virginia.

He won't list any favorites yet, but of the group Florida, Alabama, USC, and Virginia stand out the most.

Grant has made it clear that the most important aspect of his recruitment isn't the school, "it's the people."

6. Isaiah Crowell, RB

20 of 25

Isaiah Crowell has had his eye on a couple of SEC schools for a while now but doesn't plan on making his commitment until closer to National Signing Day.

Crowell's top two choices are Alabama and Georgia, with the Georgia native listing the in-state program as a slight favorite over the Crimson Tide.

Crowell was in attendance at Alabama's win over Penn State though, and he has a close relationship with Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson.

5. Tim Jernigan, DT

21 of 25

Tim Jernigan might be the top defensive tackle in the class and a prospect that's drawn considerable consideration from all over the country, but his focus is on high school, not college.

His favorites are Florida, Florida State, LSU, Alabama, and Michigan, but Jernigan is "in no rush" to make a decision.

At the moment, Jernigan has no official visits planned.

4. Aaron Green, RB

22 of 25

Aaron Green, along with Isaiah Crowell, is one of the best uncommitted running backs still available and has been a hot topic for the past couple of months.

Green has narrowed down his choices to Texas, Nebraska, FSU, and Cal. With Texas receiving a commitment from Malcolm Brown and FSU bringing James Wilder aboard, the situation has been muddled, but it's still wide open.

He was at Florida State for the BYU game, will be in attendance for the Nebraska-Texas game, and plans to set dates for Texas and Cal at some point.

3. Tony Steward, LB

23 of 25

Tony Steward isn't just one of the top linebackers in the 2011 class, he's a physical specimen who has the look of a college player going pro more than a high school senior.

His top two choices are FSU and Clemson, with most experts pointing toward those two schools as the real contenders.

But Alabama, Florida, UCLA, and Rutgers are still in the mix.

He'll be making his official visits to FSU and Clemson in January, but before then will stop by UCLA in November. Steward is still trying to schedule something with Alabama and Rutgers.

2. Cyrus Kouandjio, OT

24 of 25

Cyrus Kouandjio, the top offensive tackle in the 2011 class, received over 50 offers and took awhile to narrow things down but recently did.

He's not rushing into his decision to pick a school but recently cut his list down to 11 top choices: Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pitt, Tennessee, Virginia, and USC.

Of all the schools on his list, no one is going after him as hard as the Trojans, but he has said that Alabama, the school his brother attends, will definitely be in his top five.

As for official visits, nothing is scheduled yet, but he plans on taking some throughout the fall.

1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE

25 of 25

Jadeveon Clowney is the top prospect in the nation, and the South Carolina native has had his eye on two schools for a while now.

His top two choices are Alabama and South Carolina, but Clowney doesn't expect to make his choice until he has had all of his official visits, though he recently reiterated that those two lead the pack.

South Carolina might have the home state bonus, but Alabama's 3-4 defense is perfect for him.

He'll be at the Alabama-South Carolina game watching his top choices face off.
