Ohio State Football Annihilates Eastern Michigan in 73-20 Buckeyes Romp

Kelsey GivensSep 26, 2010

On Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Eastern Michigan by an incredible 73-20 score. The Buckeyes tied and matched several school records and advanced their record to 4-0, a great way to go into Big Ten Conference play next week.

Eastern Michigan never had a chance against the No. 2 ranked Buckeyes. OSU came out strong and scored its first touchdown with in the first two minutes of the game, thanks to quarterback Terrell Pryor. The team then went on to score again on their next possession, taking the score to 14-0.

OSU continued to rack up the points against Eastern Michigan, leading the first half of the game 38-14.

Eastern Michigan was able to score two touchdowns in the first half, both of which were just bad timing on the part of the OSU defense.  It seems after both of these runs, the OSU defense tightened up, allowing Eastern Michigan to score only six more points during the rest of the game.

The second half of the game was more exciting than the first. During this half, the Buckeyes really broke away from Eastern Michigan scoring another 35 points, while keeping the Eastern Michigan Eagles to 20 points for the whole game.

After OSU had advanced the score to 52-20, the starters weren’t really seen for the rest of the game, which allowed the second string players to have a chance to get in and gain some experience and playing time.

The best performances of this game were turned in by Dane Sazenbacher and Pryor.

Sazenbacher tied the school record for most touchdown receptions in a game by receiving four touchdown passes from Pryor. The duo of Sazenbacher and Pryor also tied the school record for most touchdown connections between a receiver and quarterback in a game.

In addition to tying some of the playing records at OSU, the winning team also scored the most points in a single game since 1950, when OSU defeated Iowa 83-21. Even though it didn’t break the school record that was a lot of points, given how conservative Head Coach Jim Tressel usually is in mismatched games such as this one.

This game showed that not only have the Buckeyes been working on their problem areas, such as the special teams, but also that they are ready to take on the rest of the Big Ten.

Though the teams in the Big Ten are much more of a challenge than Eastern Michigan, it looks like OSU has seriously been practicing and has fixed many of the problems they have been facing so far this season.

Next week the Buckeyes play Illinois. If they go into that game with the same determination and positive attitude as they did this one, they should have no problem in defeating their first Big Ten rival of the season.
