The Week 3 BCS Report: Arkansas and Arizona Win Thrillers

Dan SmithSep 20, 2010

I have been talking about the SEC as the best conference, like most college football fans, for a few years now. Anyone who watched the fourth quarter of the Arkansas-Georgia game saw a first-hand view as to why the SEC is the best conference in college football.

Trailing 24-10, the Dawgs rallied for two awesome touchdown drives to tie the game. With all of the momentum going against them, the Razorback defense stopped Georgia late and forced a punt. Ryan Mallett had a signature moment as he took Arkansas down the field on three passes to get a tough road win in the SEC.

Arkansas versus Alabama is now a game to look forward to.

In the west, Arizona jumped on Iowa early and held a 13-point lead going into the fourth quarter. College football fans were treated to a great end as the Hawkeyes rallied to tie it after a horrible pass by Arizona quarterback Nick Foles. Foles shook it off and led the Wildcats to a game-winning touchdown.

Iowa did have the ball and time to tie the game but the Arizona defense turned up the heat and sacked Ricky Stanzi three straight times to secure the home win for Arizona.

We might have seen the Rose Bowl, as these two teams will be fighting for conference titles.

It was a great weekend for inter-sectional matchups. Air Force stood tall for the Mountain West as they fell short to Oklahoma. The same cannot be said for Baylor as TCU ran over them.

Nebraska of the Big 12 dismantled Washington, with their stud QB Jake Locker, out of the Pac-10. South Carolina outlasted Clemson in another great game.

The Big Ten and Pac-10 matched up with Wisconsin beating Arizona State. Southern Cal took care of Minnesota.

There were some conference games as well.

Florida does what it always does and beat Tennessee. Texas avenged the crushing loss two years ago with a 10-point win over Texas Tech. Kansas State beat Iowa State and it's worth mentioning because of senior running Daniel Thomas and his 34-carry, 181-yard, two-touchdown performance.

Notre Dame is not in the Big Ten but they have played three Big Ten teams this season. After beating Purdue, they have gone 0-2 against the state of Michigan.

Their loss to Michigan State was rather epic as a fake field goal in overtime gave the Spartans the win over the Fighting Irish.

In a scary note, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio suffered a mild heart attack after his team won the game over Notre Dame. He is out indefinitely as he recovers.

The best are saved for last as Alabama, Ohio State, and Boise State all won in convincing fashion.
