Football Forecast: Miami Hurricanes Won't Lose Again in 2010

Benny VargasSep 16, 2010

It has to sting, going into a hostile stadium packed with over 105,000 fans, taking on the No. 2 team in the nation and losing only because of your mistakes.

The Miami Hurricanes lost last week in Columbus, Ohio 36-24 against the powerhouse Buckeyes. But in reality they didn't lose to Ohio State as much as they beat themselves.

Miami proved they are a talented team that was still able to make it a close contest despite one untimely turnover after another. In the end they couldn't over come all the errors. That is something which may come back to haunt them in late December and early January.

That set back aside, the Hurricanes will not lose another game the rest of this season.

Despite an imposing schedule looming in the next three weeks, Miami will manage to right the ship and steer a course for a BCS Bowl game.

Miami is a legitimate title contender. They have the talent and play makers necessary to dominate most teams week in and week out. If the Hurricanes and Ohio State played 10 times, an argument could be made for Miami winning at least half of those contests.

The reason for the optimism is that Miami's glaring weakness entering the season, their offensive line, has proven to be more than adequate thus far.

We knew Jacory Harris was a wild card. He proved that much last Saturday as he had the worst game of his career and prevented Miami from winning the much hyped showdown.

Harris will not have a repeat performance of that forgettable outing. His Heisman bid may be gone but he still can take Miami to a higher level before the season is done.

Even college football experts agree that Miami is much better than their current ranking (No. 17) and that they will prove that from here on out.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said, “I looked at Miami and I looked at a team that was physical. I looked at a team that was athletic, I looked at a team that, if Ohio State’s No. 2 in the country, then how can Miami be a team that’s not considered a top 10 team?"

Herbstreit is a former Buckeye player and even he agreed that Miami beat itself.

"If you eliminate those mistakes, Miami’s playing right there with Ohio State. Athletically, [the Hurricanes] may be more gifted than Ohio State," he added.

With the loss behind them now Miami can focus on taking out their anguish on future opponents. Expect nothing less than a team frothing at the bit to prove they are better than showed last Saturday.

Herbstreit added "There’s no reason that this team should not have a chance to win every single game they play the rest of the season.”

No there isn't a reason. Other than a total meltdown by their signal caller. Barring that expect Miami to go on a ten game win streak the rest of the way. This will enable them to play in the ACC championship for a trip to a BCS bowl game.

This is the same thing that the 2000 Miami Hurricanes did after losing a week two road game at Washington.

When the dust settles, Miami might find a way to slide into the National Title game. At the very least they would be 12-1 heading into a major bowl game. This would set up this young and talented core as favorites to win it all in 2011-2012.
