College Football Week 2: Five Quarterbacks Who Could Shake Things Up
Today’s college football Saturday is shaping up to be a great day loaded with top 25 competition.
From the Miami-Ohio State matchup in the afternoon to the Alabama-Penn State game at night, we have a whole day loaded with top-notch contests.
The season has the potential to be turned upside down if a few teams can pull off upsets. It’s very possible that both the first and second ranked teams in the nation—Alabama and Ohio State—could both fall on the same day.
Let’s look at five quarterbacks who have the chance to really shake up the college landscape today.
Jacory Harris: Miami
1 of 5
This afternoon quarterback Jacory Harris will lead the Canes into Columbus to do battle with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The match up is being hailed as the revenge of the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, and you can bet this Miami team is going to be pumped.
As we saw in last year’s Florida State-Miami game, Harris is a cool customer when he wants to be and he’s the type of kid that won’t be affected by the overwhelming atmosphere at the Horseshoe.
Robert Bolden: Penn State
2 of 5
Rookie quarterback Robert Bolden will step right into the flames for this one.
The 6‘4" true freshman looked solid in Penn State’s opener against Youngstown State, but now he runs into a whole different animal down in Tuscaloosa. Bolden faces off against a big, strong, and physical Alabama defense that won’t show any mercy.
If Bolden can keep his composure, he has the talent to lead Penn State to victory, but it looks like it's going to be a hard fought battle.
Christian Ponder: Florida State
3 of 5
Florida State’s Christian Ponder gets the chance to go up against an Oklahoma defense that made Utah State’s Diondre Borel look like Steve Young last weekend.
Ponder looked nearly flawless in the opener against Samford. The senior shows the type of poise that is valued in hostile road games like this one.
If Ponder can lead the Seminoles to victory, he'll start hearing the Heisman chatter pick up.
B.J. Daniels: South Florida
4 of 5
South Florida heads to Gainesville to play a Florida Gator team that looked absolutely dreadful in their season opener.
If South Florida wants to pull off the upset, they’re going to need a big game out of quarterback B.J. Daniels, who showed last year that he enjoyed beating Florida schools that didn’t recruit him (Florida State).
Matt Simms: Tennessee
5 of 5
Simms maybe the most unlikely of the five seeing as he has to compete with an Oregon offense that just put up 72 points against New Mexico.
But don’t count Tennessee out of this one just yet.
Neyland Stadium should be rocking for this one, and it’s possible Simms and the team could feed off the energy and take down the Ducks.
