Premier League Betting Tips September 11/13
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City slipped up last weekend, but there was no such dilemmas for Manchester United and Chelsea who eased to victory. Arsenal picked up a deserved 3 points at Ewood Park, but how will the international games affect the Premier League sides this weekend? Here are my selected bets for this weekend:
Newcastle United to beat Blackpool 8/13
Neither of these two sides had many worries over the international break. Neither Fabricio Coloccini or Jonas Gutierrez were called up to Argentina’s Tuesday night friendly with Argentina. Both teams have made better starts to their league campaigns than I expected from their opening three games. Three more points for Newcastle on Saturday will see them open an early gap above the relegation zone. Victory for Newcastle is what I expect. Newcastle won this fixture 4-1 last season, with Jonas Gutierrez, Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan and Wayne Routledge all getting on the scoresheet. Newcastle have pace and trickery on their wings which will cause Blackpool’s defence problems, especially Routledge. Andy Carroll has made a bright start to the season and has a good opportunity to add to his goal tally when he comes up against a weak defence.

Spurs to win at West Brom 11/10
Although they have a whole host of internationals to return from their midweek games, and with the loss of Michael Dawson in defence, Tottenham are great odds to win at the Hawthorns. West Brom have made a decent start to the season by picking up 3 points in their first home game of the season against Sunderland. And their 1-0 loss at Liverpool looked respectable, even if Liverpool didn’t play well. Tottenham will be desperate for the 3 points to maintain a push for the top 4, after they slipped up at home to Wigan last time out. The pace of Jermain Defoe will cause all of this West Brom defence problems, while Jonas Olsson has the height and aerial ability to deal with Peter Crouch in that respect. Aaron Lennon’s pace will give Nicky Shorey problems down the wing, while I expect Tottenham to create most of their chances from the centre of midfield. Tom Huddlestone can tear defences open, as can Luka Modric and Niko Kranjcar when they come inside. Youssouf Mulumbu doesn’t offer great protection to himself and is prone to giving the ball away.
Chelsea to beat West Ham -1.75 6/5
At the opposite ends of the table, Chelsea have made a flying start to the season, while West Ham have put themselves amongst the relegation favourites. Prior to last season’s draw here, Chelsea had won 4-0 in a row in this fixture, including scorelines of 4-0, 4-1 and 3-1. The international break may take them out of their stride for a few minutes, but once they’re back in full flow you can see them putting a few past the Hammers once more. The likes of Matthew Upson and James Tomkins are no match for Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, while Jonathan Spector at right back will be made to look like an amateur against Florent Malouda. This has the potential to be another damaging blow to West Ham’s early start to the season.
