Why College Football Is More Exciting Than the NFL
Football season is finally here. The 2010 college football season began this weekend, and the NFL is just a week away.
The NFL gets the money and the attention, but the collegiate game is more exciting and appealing. Tailgates, student sections, chants, and storming the field are all unique to college football.
Having been to numerous college football games at various Pac-10 stadiums, as well as a few bowl games and many NFL games, I can easily say the atmosphere at a college game is more enjoyable.
There is just something about college fans that makes the game better. Maybe it’s that the students are invested in the game because they have a vested interest in their schools. Or maybe it’s because college students do not have the money to buy all the over-priced food and drinks, meaning they actually watch the game and aren’t distracted the way NFL fans are.
The way college fans interact with the players is something truly special and unique. The chants and support for the home team as well as the taunts for the opposing team are two things that are missing from the professional game.
College fans also arrive at the game a lot earlier than the typical NFL fan, making not just the game itself better than the NFL, but the entire game day.
The NFL is still fun and exciting, but college is more enjoyable and not only because of the fans, but also because of the players.
Yes, the players are more talented in the NFL, but it is more fun to watch players who are trying to represent their schools and get to the NFL rather than players who want to get paid and promote themselves.
Everyone loves and knows the names of the star players, but the collegiate game is made by those players that aren’t going pro.
The players who are playing because they love football and love their schools are the players that make college football such a great game to watch.
