Washington Gets Top WR Kasen Williams: Where Do His Other Finalists Turn?

Michael PintoAug 31, 2010

On Friday Kasen Williams, a Top Five wide receiver from the 2011 recruiting class committed to Washington, staying in-state to attend the school both of his parents obtained their degrees from.

Williams chose the Huskies over his other four finalists, Cal, Florida, LSU, and Notre Dame.

It's a huge step in the right direction for Washington, now holding commitments from Williams, as well as 5-star tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and 4-star running back Brendon Bigelow.

It looks like the Huskies 2011 class is turning out to be one of the top offensive hauls in the nation now that they have a receiver of Williams caliber to add to the mix.

But where do Williams' other four finalists turn from here?

There aren't many elite wide receivers still on the market and even fewer who are still considering Cal, Florida, LSU, and Notre Dame.

Take a look at the scouting report and latest news for each school's top wide receiver target still available.

Cal's Top Receiving Option: DeAnthony Arnett

1 of 4

Arnett is one of the top receivers in the country, but doesn't receive the same attention as the likes of George Farmer or Kasen Williams. The reality is while they might have more upside, Arnett is ready-now and could make a bigger instant impact.

He's great at creating separation from defenders and runs some of the smoothest and polished routes of any receiver from the 2011 recruiting class.

He's on the small side at 6' and 175 lbs, but he has great elevation and consistently gets up high to make the catch. His body control and catching ability are really impressive, especially when it comes to making plays in traffic.

Arnett needs to bulk up so he doesn't get overpowered at the line of scrimmage, but that's a matter of when, not if.

His top choice is USC, along with Cal, Michigan State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Iowa.

Florida's Top Receiving Option: George Farmer

2 of 4

Farmer has the speed to get past pretty much anyone and the size to ward off stronger defenders without much effort. That's what makes him arguably the top wide receiver in the country.

He's got an ideal combination of skills and natural ability, but needs to fine tune his game some.

He'll make the spectacular catch, but then drop an easy one. Some scouts question his level of concentration and desire to go all out on every play; that's troubling.

If he can improve on his consistency though, Farmer has the goods to be a special talent.

The California native has been considered a USC lock for months now, with all the experts agreeing he's destined to be a Trojan.

But he hasn't committed yet and Florida is in his top five along with Oregon, Miami, and Alabama.

LSU's Top Receiving Option: Move On

Les Miles and Co. are in a bit of a bind when it comes to their 2011 recruiting class.

After over-signing in 2010, they're on their way to doing the same thing in 2011, though with some cuts and academic disqualification, LSU might be able to make it work.

With Jarvis Landry, Rivals' No. 3 receiver and one of the top playmakers in the country, already committed, it's likely that LSU will bypass going after another receiver since none of the top options remaining appear to be considering them.

Odel Beckman Jr. is still out there, and as of late July had LSU and Miami as his top two choices, but it's difficult to tell if the interest is mutual when it comes to the TIgers.

It seems they would be better suited holding out for the likes of Tim Jernigan, the top defensive tackle of the 2011 class, rather than chase after a lesser prospect of Beckman's caliber.

Notre Dame's Top Receiving Option: DaVaris Daniels

4 of 4

Quite a drop-off from the class of Kasen Williams, DaVaris Daniels is still a quality wide receiver, ranked in the Top 25 at the position, but we're talking a different league with these too.

Daniels is ranked as the No. 15 wideout on Rivals and the No. 23 wideout on Scout.

At 6'2" and 175 lbs, he's thin and needs to bulk up, but when he's not pressed at the line of scrimmage he can cover a ton of ground in very quickly.

He runs good routes and is strong enough that he won't be bullied by defenders. Daniels is a big target with elite body control and solid change of direction ability; it makes him a great redzone threat.

Currently, he's narrowed his target schools down to Miami, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. He seems infatuated with Brian Kelly and the spread offense.
