CFB Predictions: What Teams Will Score the Most Points in Week 1?
With so much anticipation being built up for the beginning of the season, plenty of teams, coaches, and players are looking to make a big impression.
How else can you gain nationwide notice than by scoring a lot of points?
And with so many top-ranked teams starting their year off with weak non-BCS opponents, high-scoring games and blowouts become inevitable.
Here are 10 teams that will score a lot of points in Week 1.
Oregon
1 of 10
This is an Oregon team that ranked eighth in the nation with 36.1 points scored per game and sixth in rushing with 231.7 yards a game.
True, they're without a key player in Jeremiah Masoli but they're also facing a New Mexico team that only won once last year.
If they needed a chance to test new starting quarterback Darron Thomas, who hasn't take a snap since 2008, here's a great opportunity.
Wisconsin
2 of 10
On offense, the Badgers are returning all but one starter for the season. Starting quarterback Scott Tolzien will have plenty of weapons to choose from at wide receiver.
And their running game will be bolstered by bruising back John Clay, who rushed for 1,517 yards and 18 touchdowns last year.
They'll be on the road for their first game this week against UNLV.
The Running Rebels were 5-7 last year and 0-3 against top-25 opponents, allowing opponents to score an average of 32.4 points against them.
With the Badgers high-powered offense, they'll have ample opportunity to score several times in this game.
Nebraska
3 of 10
Nebraska starts its season at home hosting Western Kentucky, a team that didn't win a single game last year and is nursing a 20-game losing streak. Last year's opponents scored nearly 40 points per game against them.
You know what that means. They'll be hungry for a win and angling for an upset.
But who are we kidding? The Cornhuskers are light-years better than this team.
For the 'Huskers it'll be 40 points or bust.
USC
4 of 10
What's a good way to take your aggression out for being banished from NCAA postseason play for the next two years?
Score a lot of points on Hawaii.
The last time the Trojans played in Hawaii to open the season they beat up on the Warriors 63-17 in 2005.
Yes, this is a much different USC team now than it was back then. But don't forget Lane Kiffin was the offensive coordinator that year, and now he's got a lot of things to prove as the head coach.
Penn State
5 of 10
Over the last two years, Penn State has opened its season up with a bang. They won against Coastal Carolina 66-10 in 2008 and defeated Akron 31-7 in 2009.
Expect them to do the same this year against Youngstown State who had a 6-5 record playing in the Missouri Valley Conference last season.
The Penguins will be no match to the Nittany Lions and another opening-day blowout could be in the works for JoePa and this team.
Florida
6 of 10
Just like their SEC rivals Alabama, the Gators will be facing some weak competition to start their season.
Miami (OH) won one game in 2009 and two games in 2008. Last year, they allowed opposing teams to score over 34 points per game.
Florida starts the season No. 4 on the AP poll and No. 2 on the Coaches poll. They know how to score after averaging 35.9 points last year.
And this game will give them plenty of opportunity to score plenty of touchdowns. They'll find the end zone at least six times in this game.
Stanford
7 of 10
Stanford sits just outside the top-25 rankings in college football and are believed to be a definite Pac-10 title contender.
D-I FCS Sacramento State (5-6 last season) is not even expected to make a run at the Big Sky Conference title this year.
Stanford, powered by quarterback Andrew Luck, should score easily and often against its overmatched opponents.
Miami (FL)
8 of 10
When Miami played Florida A & M a year ago, the Hurricanes won 48-16 at home.
This year in their encore matchup, similar results can be expected.
Miami will be returning most of their starters including running back Damien Berry, quarterback Jacory Harris, and a flurry of receivers on offense. Add to that another year of maturity, and they could even improve upon their last beatdown of the Rattlers.
Boise State Vs. Virginia Tech
9 of 10
While most top five teams look to start their season with some easy games against non-conference opponents, Boise State is doing the opposite.
Being the lone non-BCS team in the top five, they'll start their run for the national championship against a top-10 team and ACC title contender.
The Broncos led college football in points scored per game last year with 42.2 points per game. And with most of their starters returning, they're likely to repeat the feat again this season.
This should be an exciting match to watch on Monday, but don't expect Hokies' defense to hold off the Broncos attack.
One way or another, BSU will find a way to score.
Alabama
10 of 10
What happens when the No. 1 team in the nation meets up with San Jose State?
A massive blowout.
The Spartans won two games last year, whereas the Crimson Tide went undefeated.
Even though Alabama will be without Heisman-repeat candidate Mark Ingram this week, who injured himself during Monday's practice, there's no way this matchup remains close.
