James Wilder Jr. May Be Waffling on Georgia, According To Reports

Michael PintoAug 18, 2010

The James Wilder saga will end today at 5 p.m. and the speculation as to where he'll be playing his college ball has kicked into overdrive.

On Tuesday, Brent McMurphy of AOL Fanhouse reported that Wilder was set to commit to Georgia "barring a last minute change of heart."

That led to word spreading that Wilder would indeed commit to Georgia though there still has not been any official word from Wilder or his camp. That of course is to expected considering the camera crews and reporters will be waiting form him at Plant View high school later today for his televised announcement.

The latest reports, this time coming from Mitch Stephens of MaxPreps.com indicate that a source close to MaxPreps says there is an 80-90 percent chance that Wilder will not commit to Georgia.

Wilder is the No. 1 prospect in the country on MaxPreps, the No. 3 prospect on Rivals and the No. 7 prospect on Scout. He's projected as a 5-star talent on both ends of the field and has thrived as a running back and linebacker in high school.

The 6'3" and 215 pound prospect insisted that he wanted to play running back in college and once schools figured out that his demands were legitimate, they changed their tune about where they'd allow Wilder to play.

Wilder narrowed his choices down to Florida, Georgia and FSU after considering his options and deciding that his best chances to pursue his offensive game were at one of these three schools.

“I am now researching a lot of schools to see which ones have used big backs to carry the ball for them in the past and things like that," he said in July. "I want to play in an offense that a big back like me fits into the best."

So while it appeared that Georgia was the school Wider apparently felt the best about, that change of heart McMurphy described might have taken place.

"I've slept on it a lot," Wilder told the St. Petersburg Times last week. "Today I'll have FSU in the lead, tomorrow I'll have UF and in three days I'll have Georgia. I just have to make sure I think a lot about it. I've still got a lot of thinking to do in the last seven days."

Stay tuned for any further developments and check back at 5 p.m. for coverage of the Wilder's announcement.
