One Last Look at the 2010 Texas Longhorns Schedule
The 2010 college football season is almost here and as Longhorns fans, we are all very excited about what the new season has to offer. There are some prognosticators predicting that Texas will go all the way back to the BCS Championship Game while others feel that they will be stuck in the middle of the top 25, somewhere between 12 and 16.
Right now, many of us are taking a look at the schedule of our favorite college football team and trying to figure out just how many wins and losses they will have. It’s always a tough thing to do, but it gets easier as time goes on and we get a better chance to look at the team and each team that they play.
So, without further adieu, here is a final look and prediction at the Longhorns' schedule prior to the start of the 2010 season.
September 4 at home versus Rice —Like many other games to begin the year, schools are matched up with other schools that help them pave the way for easy opening wins. Not that every game is easy by any means, but this game shouldn’t be too difficult for the Longhorns. They will notch their first win of the year here.
September 11 at home versus Wyoming —This is another game that the Longhorns should be able to handle fairly easy and that will allow them to position themselves for a tough game against the Red Raiders the next weekend. The Longhorns will go to 2-0 here.
September 18 at Lubbock versus Texas Tech —This is always a big rivalry and the Red Raiders might be coming into this game playing pretty well. The Red Raiders and the Longhorns are both undergoing some changes after last season, but the Longhorns will be much farther ahead than the Red Raiders are, and will win this game to go 3-0.
September 25 at home versus UCLA —This is going to be a tough early test for the Longhorns. The Bruins have steadily been getting better over the past couple of seasons and could end up being a bit of a thorn in the side for the Longhorns.
Still, with their offense coming together in this game (by now their offense should be playing very well) and their defense playing well too, this game could go to the Horns. Look for them to narrowly win their fourth game in a row.
October 2 versus Oklahoma in Dallas —This promises to be as big of a game as any that these two teams have played in a long time. Both teams are undergoing changes at the quarterback position so things should be pretty interesting in this game.
The Longhorns do have the stronger defense of the two, so if it comes down to that, the Longhorns will have this game in the bag. Look for another Longhorns win here.
October 16 at Nebraska —This is going to be the game of the year for both teams as well as the Big 12. This is a rematch of last season’s championship game, in which the Longhorns narrowly beat the Cornhuskers and won a chance to play in the BCS Championship Game.
This promises to be a very good game, especially since it will be the Cornhuskers' last as part of the Big 12. Texas should be able to squeeze out a victory here to remain undefeated.
October 23 at home versus Iowa State —Iowa State is getting better, but they won’t be able to overcome the power that is the Texas Longhorns. Look for this to be an easy victory for the Horns as they remain undefeated at this point in the season.
October 30 at home versus Baylor —Baylor has been another one of those easier teams to defeat in the past few years, so Texas shouldn’t have a problem against them this season. As long as they don’t take this team lightly, they should win this game.
November 6 at Kansas State in Manhattan —The Longhorns had better be ready, because the Wildcats are a team poised to surprise a few people this season.
However, the Wildcats are still going to be at a disadvantage with the Longhorns, so as long as they don’t take this team lightly, they should be able to win this game.
November 13 versus Oklahoma State in Austin —Oklahoma State is definitely not a pushover and isn’t a team that the Longhorns should take lightly. Granted, Oklahoma lost some of their better talent after last season, but this is a team that’s been headed in a good direction for a while and may be a spoiler for the Longhorns at this point in the season.
Texas can’t take this one sitting down and as long as they play great defense, they should be able to win this game and keep their drive towards the national championship alive.
November 20 versus Florida Atlantic in Austin —The Longhorns will get a little bit of a break towards the end of the season when Florida Atlantic comes to Austin to take them on. Texas shouldn’t have too much trouble beating Florida Atlantic on their way to meeting the Aggies in their last regular season game of the year.
November 25 versus Texas A&M in Austin —The Longhorns finish the regular season against one of their biggest rivals, in what promises to be a great finish to the season. If the Longhorns are in contention for the BCS title, you can bet that they are going to play their very best and win this game. It’s possible that the Longhorns complete an undefeated regular season with this game.
It’s not out of the question to think that the Longhorns could go undefeated this season. Granted, they are starting over at the quarterback position and at some positions on defense, but they should be able to put all of their pieces together and create another winning team in 2010.
If anything, the Longhorns will be very interesting to watch this season.
