Have the Timberwolves Damaged the Retinas in the Eyes of the Media?
I have no understanding as to what's going on with Timberwolves fans and Jonny Flynn.
I have no understanding as to why there is a new rumor every 30 minutes, and half of them do not make any sense whatsoever.
Let's not look at the drafting confusion with Flynn and Ricky Rubio, but rather at the trades that occurred before drafting day and during the regular season:
- acquired the fifth selection in the 2009 NBA draft, center Etan Thomas, and forwards Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov from the Washington Wizards for guards Randy Foye and Mike Miller
- signed G Ramon Sessions to a four-year contract
- signed G Sasha Pavlovic to a one-year contract
- acquired F Nathan Jawai and cash from the Dallas Mavericks for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2012
- acquired F Alando Tucker, a second-round draft pick, and cash from Phoenix for G Jason Hart
Do any of these trades or signings seem out of favor for the Wolves at all? Foye and Miller for Songaila, Pecherov, and the fifth overall pick might have seemed ill advised because Miller and Foye were "starting NBA players."
Hmm.
Foye proved to be inconsistent in a Wizards uniform and Miller just refuses to shoot the ball (something he does very well). Miller won the Sixth Man of the Year Award one year, so how does that even add up?
The Wolves drafted Rubio with the fifth overall pick and Flynn with the sixth overall pick. Knowing that Rubio might not come over during the 2009 NBA season, they needed security, hence Flynn, who had a solid rookie season. Neither Rubio nor anyone else has given a reason as to why he wouldn't join the Wolves for another year.
With that being said, there are so many negative influences around the Web about the Wolves that it's utterly sickening. I don't think Minnesota has ever had to endure such verbal punishment.
It first started with the draft when the Wolves didn't take Stephen Curry (who's a great player) with the sixth overall pick. While that was a loss, Flynn didn't prove to be a bad player, and there is no reason why he is not going to continue to improve, seeing that he's only 20 years old.
According to the latest Draft Express mock draft, the Wolves have five picks, and ALL of them are centers.
You have got to be kidding me.
Adrian Wojnarowski recently had a video in which he was talking about draft picks and which team could get better. In this four-minute video, he repeatedly talked about David Kahn in a negative way. Why?
Remember last season with the whole Al Jefferson for Danny Granger rumor? Well, it turns out that might have been a true trade that was trying to take place, and supposedly Wojnarowski was told not to leak any of that information.
Of course, he was the very first one to state something, and ever since then David Kahn hasn't mediated with him.
While I will say this, Kahn isn't the best talent evaluator, even though it was reported that Rubio and Tyreke Evans (prior to the day of the draft) were No. 2 and No. 3 on the draft board. Blake Griffin was No. 1.
But it's different this time out. Kurt Rambis and Tony Ronzone are much better talent evaluators in my opinion, and they will be in the green room during draft day.
Now the Wolves have the resources to get any pick or player they want to in the draft, and I have a feeling that they are going to get their guy.
I'm hoping the Timberwolves put out a good young team next season to shut the media up, once and for all.
Thanks for reading.
