World Cup 2010: England Vs Algeria Preview

Daniel GoochJun 17, 2010

England will be looking to put thier uninspiring opening game behind them when they take on Algeria.

The 1-1 draw with the USA provided more questions than answers for Fabio Capello and the England team. They know that there is much work to be done if they still want to have the chance of lifting the greatest prize in football.

Only a win will give hope and happiness to the millions of people supporting them. A win will give the team a boost and get one foot in the knockout stages, but the Three Lions have made a habit of doing things the hard way.

A stuttering start, rather than a flying one, suggests Capello may make some changes, but the boss does keep his cards close to his chest, so we wont know for sure until they walk out onto the pitch.

Algeria had a Robert Green moment of their own as they were beaten 1-0 by Slovenia in their opening game.

They definately need to raise their game, if they want to trouble England. A defeat for the African team would see an abrupt end to their World Cup campaign.

England has a selection dilemma heading into the match.

This is the probable England team to start against Algeria:

from sources at the BBC....

                                                  James

  Johnson              Carragher                     Terry                A.Cole

  Lennon               Lampard                       Barry                Gerrard (C)

                                    Heskey             Rooney

Ledley King will definitely be missing, as he picked up a groin problem in the first few minutes of the first game. To be honest I think he was a waste of a selection.

James Milner and Shaun Wright-Phillips offered little down the left last time out, both could be forced on to the bench.

Gareth Barry is back to full fitness and is set to take his holding role in midfield, while Steven Gerrard is likely to be pushed out to the left wing.

Heskey, who surprised me for once last week, will probably start next to Wayne Rooney again.
