Heisman Outlook 2010, Is Mark Ingram Favored To Repeat?

Walker DanielsJun 7, 2010

While World Cup betting is the hot play right now, but it’s never too early to start thinking about american football (or UFC 116 Betting), and the list of Heisman favorites have been released.

Here’s a look at the top-five favorites to win college football’s biggest individual award.

Mark Ingram, Alabama (+350)

The defending Heisman winner stopped Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford from taking their second Heismans, and now Ingram will attempt to become the second player to win this award twice, joining Ohio State legend Archie Griffin.

Ingram was fourth in the nation in rushing last year, and he powered the Crimson Tide to a win in the BCS title game over Texas. However, Alabama may give more carries to Trent Richardson, which cuts into Ingram’s productivity.

Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State (+500)

Pryor led the Buckeyes in rushing, but his passing was still inconsistent. Still, he had a big game through the air in Ohio State’s win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl, a game that he played with torn knee ligaments.

Pryor is fully recovered from surgery, but the biggest thing holding him back is the conservative playcalling of coach Jim Tressell. The “Sweater Vest” needs to take the reins off and allow Pryor to grow, because of anyone on this list Pryor may have the most natural talent.

Ryan Mallett, Arkansas (+1000)

Mallett was eighth in the nation in passer rating after transferring from Michigan, and he set school records for passing yards in a game and in a season, most touchdowns in a season, and most throws in a row without a pick, among others.

If anything, Mallett will have more of a green light in 2010, but if there is a warning sign, it’s that he struggled badly against Alabama and Florida, two of the best defenses in the nation.

Also, the Razorbacks need to be successful for Mallett to have a chance, and in the SEC, that’s like asking the Ivory Coast to beat out World Cup Group G betting favorites Brazil and Portugal.

Jake Locker, Washington (+1200)

A lot of NCAA football betting players figured Locker would skip his senior year, but he’s back at Washington and some are calling him the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft.

However, he had just one 300-yard game, which was in the season opener against LSU, and that’s in a Pac-10 conference that was called out all season for having terrible pass defenses.

He may have the physical tools, but Locker needs the numbers to boost his stock.

Noel Devine, West Virginia (+1200)

Devine was ninth in the country in rushing last season, and with his 6.1 average, he’s a breakaway threat.

But Devine has never been the star we thought he would be coming to Morgantown and this is his last chance to step up to the plate. If Devine can tear up the Big East this year, with his tools, he could move up the online betting list for the Heisman in a hurry.
