Nebraska Huskers: The Clock Is Ticking, So Make the Smart Decision

Christian ChildressJun 7, 2010

Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe came out from a presidents meeting Friday and announced a so-called "process" will decide how to sort out talks between Big 12 schools and the Big 10.

What Beebe truly meant was: Nebraska, it's all on you.

Missouri? This isn't about Missouri. The truth is, no one cares if Missouri bolts for the Big 10. The last thing I recall Missouri doing was complaining that the Insight Bowl invited Iowa State instead of them.

If Missouri leaves, that could actually benefit Beebe's case for the Big 12 to stay together. As of today, Missouri is just one more team being paid money that everyone else wants.

Without Nebraska, however, the league is much different. The Big 12 North loses all relevance in football, and let's be honest, Big 12 South fans only care about football.

Without the Cornhuskers, Texas and Oklahoma lose interest in the Big 12. If Nebraska leaves, why wouldn't the Big 12 South bolt to the Pac-10?

Sure, Texas wants their TV Network to come out of the grave, but that takes a lot of time that they don't seem to have right now.

Texas wants nothing more than to keep the Big 12 as it is and get great amounts of money from their own TV Network.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Colorado/Baylor will all be gone in a heartbeat too if they see Nebraska leave. All five of these universities are too scared to wait it out, too afraid they'll be stuck in the C-USA in the long run.

So, what happens if Nebraska does leave? I know one thing, it'll get very messy if they do.

What do you do about officiating? How about bowl alliances and TV contracts? Here's a big one people aren't paying much attention to: the one and only BCS system.

How do the automatic teams get chosen now? Who plays in which games? All of these are questions that are linked with expansion.

Now will the Pac-16 happen soon? No—2012-2013 is the first season in which it would actually be a true conference. Yet, it seems that as soon as Friday we could be seeing the possibility of the Big 12 deteriorating, and the Pac-16 becoming a very realistic possibility within the next few weeks.

So, Nebraska, it comes down to you.

The Big 12 is very much in your hands as of now. Please make the right decision and bolt for the Big 10. I believe it opens amazing opportunities for numerous Big 12 South Universities.

If you have any feedback please leave it below in the comments. Thanks.
