It's Time for Football: 2010 College Football Preview
Well, not really.
But the 2010 College Football season kicks off in just 100 days. With Basketball over and Baseball and Softball almost over, it's all about football.
Every year we think back on the season that just passed and dream of what the new season will bring us.
Some things stay the same. There are still 120 teams and nobody has changed conferences (Yet!).
The Magazine's are starting to roll out their 2010 preview specials and blogs are flying with predictions and rumors galore. I would like to take a few minutes of your time and hit on a couple of issues or things I will be looking at during the up coming year.
BIG 10 Expansion:
We have heard the talk for months now and everybody is wondering when, who, and how many when the Big 10 does something.
I'm not for any super conference deal. 16 teams is way to many in any league.
The Big 10 needs to add one team and then change their conference name. Yes, Notre Dame would be great, but I fell Missouri should be the team to get added, but it's not the only change that needs to happen.
The Pac 10 needs to add two teams, and Utah and Boise State would be great fits for the league. The Big 12 will need to replace Missouri by grabbing TCU or Houston.
The Big East needs to add four teams which won't be easy because of the basketball issues.
UCF, East Carolina, Marshall, Notre Dame (just joking, but not really, hell they already play basketball in the Conference), Troy, or Southern Mississippi could be the fourth team.
I am a firm believer that all BCS Conferences need to have 12 teams each. Now this will not happen but you can always dream.
SEC drive for Five:
Will the SEC win their fifth straight BCS National Title? That is another great question entering the 2010 season.
If we just went off paper and didn't play the games then Alabama is really the only team with a chance to win it.
Being a Gator fan that is hard to say, swallow, cough-up, and even think about, but it's the truth. I personally see the chances of the SEC winning their fifth title in a row at 80 percent.
Alabama is just that damn good. Florida, Arkansas, and Georgia may be able to do it if things fall their way and players step up big.
Boise St/ TCU talk again:
This is becoming a yearly thing for these teams. Can and will the BCS let them play for a title?
Quick Answer for this year, No.
Boise State is better than TCU this year and will finish the regular season winning 11 straight games but will lose the opener to Virginia Tech.
TCU has way too many tough games this year. With Oregon State, Baylor, and their conference schedule, things are not looking good for the Horned Frogs.
Heisman:
OK is it just me or has the Heisman become, how do you say, a "whatever" award.
Is it always the best player on the best team or a player from a big name school. Well this year Kellen Moore and Case Keenum will try and change that .
Moore could end up being on the best team. Somebody please school me on when the last time a player from a small school won the Heisman.
Well that's it, just a few things that I will be looking forward to answering this season. Over the next 100 days you will read tons of articles, previews, predictions, and rumors that will make you fell like you're going mad, but come September 2, it will be all worth it.
Thanks for your time and please fell free to give me your thoughts on all the topics I brought up or some of your own.
