A Look Back at The 2010 Draft and the Longhorns
The 2010 NFL Draft has come to an end and it’s time for the Longhorns' players that were selected in the draft to go out and start playing with their new teams. There were a few surprises for a couple of guys waiting to get drafted and we will take a look at why both of these guys may have fallen down some team's draft boards in this draft.
Let’s take a look at the players from Texas that were drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft and what the future holds for them.
Colt McCoy-QB-Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third-round (85th overall). The Browns really got a steal by getting McCoy in the third-round after he had fallen farther than many draft experts had thought. What is nice is that he will have some time to learn the system in Cleveland before being thrown out there to try to win games. If the team sticks to their word and lets him develop, McCoy could be a solid quarterback in the future.
Lamarr Houston-DT-Drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second-round (44th overall). After having a strong set of workouts prior to the draft, the Raiders ended up getting a great player that should end up having a fine career in the NFL. Houston, one of the more underrated defensive tackles in the 2010 NFL Draft, went right where he should have and will be interesting to watch in Oakland.
Sergio Kindle-DE-Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second-round (43rd). Kindle, chosen one spot before Houston, dropped in the draft quite possibly because of a problem he had with an injury but he was picked in a place which was still respectable and he is in a good situation in Baltimore. Look for Kindle to have a solid career with the Ravens.
Earl Thomas-S-Drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second-round (14th) Thomas went right where a lot of experts felt that he would go but perhaps not to the right team. Thomas should be able to make an impact on the team right off the bat and could end up being one of the better players at the safety position in the NFL, in time. Keep an eye on Thomas.
Roddrick Muckelroy-LB-Drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round (131st) The Bengals felt that Muckelroy was worth the value in the fourth-round and added him to help beef up their line-backing corps. Muckelroy, like Thomas, went right about where most experts felt that he would. Look for him to nail down a roster spot in Cincinnati this season.
Jordan Shipley-WR-Drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third-round (84th) The Bengals got a great player Shipley and he could end up being a favorite target for quarterback Carson Palmer if everything develops well. Shipley may end up being a guy similar to the New England Patriots' Wes Welker, a valuable slot receiver that can make the tough catch in the middle and pick up those hard to get yards. His career will be an interesting one to follow.
It will be fun to watch and see how the latest crop of Longhorns' draftees will do in the NFL. McCoy may not get off to a fast start and that’s ok but the rest of the group should get thrown into the mix right away in 2010 and could see a lot of action. McCoy is the guy to watch in this bunch because he has the most potential and could have the best career out of any of these guys in the long run.
