Jonathan Toews Enters Canada's Record Books

Canada Hockey viewed Jonathan Toews as a 13th forward, possibly centering the fourth line of forwards coming into the Games. However, Toews was named the tournament's most outstanding forward and was praised by Canada, and Detroit, head coach Mike Babcock. Babcock was asked during the Games who his best forward was, and he responded by simply saying whomever "is playing with Jonathan Toews".

Now, Toews has another honor to add to the accolades from Vancouver.

Canada Hockey announced that Toews is the youngest hockey player in Canadian history to win the international triple crown: a gold medal in the World Juniors, World Championships, and Olympics.

Toews completed the triple crown at 21 years, 9 months, 26 days. Shea Weber, Toews' teammate in Vancouver, is the second youngest to do it at 24 years, 6 months, 10 days. Patrice Bergeron and Jarome Iginla also were 24 when they accomplished the feat.

Also on Toews' resume is the honor of still being the youngest captain in the NHL. Toews began wearing the "C" on his sweater before the 2008-09 season and, with his new contact beginning next season, would figure to do so for at least the next five years.

In 17 games last year in his first Stanley Cup playoffs , Toews had 13 points with seven goals and six assists following a team-leading 34 goals in the regular season. This year Toews has 22 goals and 37 assists despite missing six games with a concussion early in the season. He is among the league's best in the faceoff circle, winning 57.3% of his faceoffs and his +19 rating is also among the NHL's elite.
