Mark McGwire Comes Clean after Being Hired As Hitting Coach For the Cardinals
Foxsports.com is reporting that the longtime accusation of Mark McGwire has been confirmed and that he has said in a statement to The Associated Press that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.
One of the more interesting comments McGwire made was quote:
"I wish I had never touched steroids," It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."

Moving along.
Since 2005, it has been a long time question on the minds of millions of fans about the truth behind Big Mac’s record setting success in 1998 when he hit 70 dingers. But for many, the question basically answered itself.
What’s interesting about all of this is the fact that it comes on the heels of Big Mac’s recent hire to be the next hitting coach for the Cardinals.
So why now, why admitting all of this after becoming the hitting coach for your last team, a time and team where you were suppose to be a genuine great, but wound up being fabricated.
It isn’t any surprise that MLB athletes have long used PEDs over the course of history, only that, it’s now a serious issue, whereas in the past it was not.
The steroid era is basically the bridge between the two—hey it had to start somewhere right?
But what’s even more of a pressing question in lieu of “why now” is the unwillingness to come clean—no pun intended—when the opportunity presented itself.
There is undoubtedly plenty of years under Big Mac’s belt that were clean play; seasons where he was a genuine threat at the plate. But part of life is having the ability to look beyond a person’s transgressions, and more importantly, for the individual person to admit his failings and move on in an attempt to give back.
Becoming the hitting coach for an already stacked team is a great way to start; just keep him away from the Gatorade coach.
