College Football Odds Week 10: Picks, Predictions and Spread for Top 25 Teams

Joe TanseyNov 5, 2020

The Georgia Bulldogs are 13-1 in SEC East play since the start of the 2018 season.

On Saturday, Kirby Smart's team puts that record on the line against the Florida Gators with a chance to earn the inside track to the SEC Championship Game.

Georgia can't officially clinch a rematch with the Alabama Crimson Tide, but a win over Florida would distance it from its closest divisional rival.

The Bulldogs enter Jacksonville, Florida, as a three-point favorite, and although Florida has the potential to keep the game close, Georgia may take over with its defense.

A day before Georgia-Florida and another Top 10 matchup takes center stage, a pair of Group of Five contenders face off on the blue turf in Boise, Idaho.

The BYU Cougars rolled through their first seven opponents and can make a larger claim to be the top Group of Five program by earning a road win over the Boise State Broncos.

All Times ET. Odds via DraftKings SportsbookPredictions against the spread in bold.

Predictions

No. 8 Florida at No. 5 Georgia (-3)

Georgia owns a three-game winning streak over Florida, and it beat the Gators in six of their last nine head-to-head meetings.

During the current winning run, Georgia controlled games with its defense. Florida has not scored 20 points in the rivalry since its last victory in 2016.

A similar result could play out on Saturday since the Bulldogs held three of the four teams they beat to 10 points or fewer. The Tennessee Volunteers scored 21 points against Georgia, but they only had 215 total yards.

If Nakobe Dean, Azeez Ojulari and others swarm the ball, put pressure on Kyle Trask and limit the production of Florida's ground game, the Bulldogs could come away with a more commanding victory than the odds suggest.

Georgia's defense has 17 sacks, six forced fumbles and six interceptions. Trask has a pair of interceptions and has been taken down on four occasions, but the Gators have not faced many quality opponents.

A year ago, Trask produced 257 passing yards, but he received little support from his ground game. Georgia held the Gators to 21 rushing yards.

If Georgia contains the threat posed by Trask and Kyle Pitts and silences the run once again, it should give the offense some breathing room to work with.

The offense, led by Stetson Bennett IV, produced at least 24 points in the first four games, and it is facing a Florida defense that conceded at least 17 points to each of its four foes.

As long as Georgia's defense plays well and Bennett bounces back from the 14-point showing against the Kentucky Wildcats, the Bulldogs should earn a head-to-head tiebreaker on their closest competition in the SEC East.

With wins over Florida and Tennessee, Georgia should be in a great position to confirm the SEC East title through wins over the Missouri Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks and Vanderbilt Commodores.

No. 9 BYU (-3) at No. 21 Boise State

Zach Wilson and the BYU offense received plenty of attention for their dynamic ability through seven games.

Wilson, who is a dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate, has 2,152 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 74.6 completion percentage.

Four Cougars wide receivers have more than 200 receiving yards, while Tyler Allgeier and Wilson have combined for 14 rushing scores.

So far, BYU has stormed through weaker opposition on its independent schedule. Friday is viewed as its toughest test and its best chance to improve an undefeated resume in its quest to land a New Year's Six berth.

Boise State presents a tough challenge for the BYU defense since it accumulated 101 points in its first two Mountain West games against the Utah State Aggies and Air Force Falcons.

If the Broncos score at that high of a pace on Friday, BYU could be put under pressure in its attempt to keep up.

But even if Boise State matches BYU's offensive production, it may not be enough to beat the ninth-ranked team in the country because of how many weapons it possesses on offense.

If Wilson and Co. are firing are on cylinders, all it takes is one or two stops to create the necessary advantage to win and cover the spread.

If that happens, BYU will have the quality win it needs on its resume with two scheduled games left.
